Keep in mind most of the dirt entrants at Colonial can't run. She was terrible at Keeneland...

yeah, i know she ran at keeneland, but so many horses run like crap over that track, i dont even consider that meaningful.

i also assumed that most of her opponents were most likely miserable, which is why i would like to watch the race. and barring that, i'd like a first hand impression (just not btw's hand now!) impression of the race!

I am not so sure that wasn't a case of an ok horse beating up a horrid field. I was actually paying attention to that race because the first foal out of a mare that I trained was making first start (#7 -out of Glamorama-who was pretty slow- finished 2nd). Trombettas horse was impressive but when you look at the quality of horse he beat you have to wonder. The combined purchase price of his foes minus the aforementioned #7 who was a $60k Keesept yearling, and the #5 who is a meadow monster homebred was $29,700. Not that sales price is everything but you had yearlings that sold for $6200, $9500, $7000, $3500, $1000, and $2500. The homebred is trained by a trainer who is 1 for 75 for the year on a weak curcuit. The #7 who was a distant second is by Flatter who may be ok as a cheaper sire. The winner is by Songandaprayer who is a top first out sire out of a Sadlers Wells mare, unquestionably the best bred horse in the race by a long ways. And when you take into consideration that they ran virtually the same fractions and final time as an awful group of 13000 nw2 mares who average 35 beyers, later in the card much doubt must be placed in the effort.

It very likely was a case like you described....and I honestly haven't looked at it analytically yet...and being that it was a CNL race...I probably won't.

I singled the horse, and hit the chalk-laced pick four.

It was a real dominant win visually....but like you said, over a tremendously suspect field...and wasn't exactly flattered by what happened in the other race.

Those CNL MSW races often come up empty. Wismer had an even money favorite in the race the Empire Maker won big in....probably an offspring of Cozar that couldn't outrun a goat.

I think that I may be visiting VA a little this summer since I have been looking over the cards there. The money is not bad especially considering how bad some of the races are. It is like a diluted Maryland card and Maryland horses are pretty weak.

You could pick a lot of decent checks over there. All the top MD horses seem to disperse to Delaware, NY, etc.
