Default The SAI Cup and the KrisFlyer

How the fields are shaping up...

Singapore Airlines International Cup

Always Certain (Singapore)
California Memory (Hong Kong)
Chinchon (France)
Cirrus Des Aigles (France)
City Style (UAE)
Dream Peace (France)
El Dorado (Singapore)
Flax (Singapore)
Flying Fulton (Singapore)
New Rose Wood (Singapore)
Speed Baby (Singapore)
Thumbs Up (Hong Kong)
Waikato (Singapore)
Xtension (Hong Kong)
Zazou (Germany)

KrisFlyer International Sprint

Ato (Singapore)
Better Be The One (Singapore)
Captain Obvious (Singapore)
Invincible Ash (Ireland)
Krypton Factor (Bahrain)
Mr Big (Singapore)
Perfect Pins (Singapore)
Rocket Man (Singapore)
Secret Asset (United Kingdom)
Yin Xin (Singapore)

3 things (as an aside)... first is Opie has the Waikato mount which is just fantastic. Cool old horse who, the older he gets? The better he gets! Thrilled. Quite a combo.

Second... Matt Chadwick has been replaed on California Memory (okay with Felix but still.... breaks your heart). I'm sorry but why is Cruz even sending him over? I think he needs a break but what do I know.

Just to back up my silly opinion a tad...

Multiple G1 winner Vengeance of Rain - ran in Dubai on 3/31/2007 and never won another race after returning home

Multiple G1 winner Beauty Flash - raced in Dubai on 3/26/11 and still hasn't won another race since returning home*

Multiple G1 winner Good Ba Ba - ran in Dubai on 3/27/2010 and never won another race after returning home

Multiple G1 winner Bullish Luck - ran in Dubai on 3/29/2008 and never won another race after returning home

G1 winner Russian Pearl - raced in Dubai on 3/25/2006 and never won another race after returning home

G1 placed King Dancer - ran in Dubai on 3/26/2011 and never won another race after returning home.

* still in training

So yeah I'm sorry but he is a wonderful horse who just doesn't seem to be the same.

Third is Brett Prebble.

When he went over for the KrisFlyer in 2008 Absolute Champion sadly broke down.

The following year he went over again, this time on Sacred Kingdom.

He won and dedicated the win to Absolute Champion which I don't know if this is something that's done a lot but I had never seen any jockey do such a touching thing. All class.

Couldn't post this thread without mentioning that.

Rocket Man out of KrisFlyer, both of these races absolutely wide open. I'm in Sing for the week and have reports on DubaiRaceNight.com

I was floored when I saw your post...

Glad they're doing what's right for him but whoa that is really really too bad.

I have my old favorites (Waikato, El Dorado) and of course always root for the HK runners but I'm wondering your thoughts on Flying Fulton, Mr. Big and Perfect Pins if you'd seen any of them yet of course.

I think the locals are looking really good this year. Always Certain, BBTO, Ato, Captain Obvious and the filly New Roe Wood (didn't do well last time around but she does love being 2nd and has improved like so many of them and at the right time)... you're right it's all wide open.

I know nothing about Yin Xin (sp) and the Malaysian import Speed Baby so any thoughts on those runners would be appreciated.

On Mr. Burridges website Apache Crown is one of the only names who can't be clicked on...

I remember him being injured in Dubai but the news was that he lived and would be going back home.

Any update on that one?

Sorry to ask so many things. That is very cool that you're there and lucky you for getting to watch the Captain Obvious / Gingerbread Man trial.

Sucks that the Singapore Turf Club which gives out SO much info deletes their retired horses. I mean where am I supposed to watch replays of War Horn now (he was one of my favorites )? They should change it like the HKJC did (they'd delete the retired ones too un till a few years ago).

Sorry for going on and on... most people don't really care about these races so am in a state of shock.

Have a great time.

Apache Crown broke down in a morning gallop in January or February, I believe.

I don't know why but I thought I'd read he "went amiss" and would be going home.

Oh well what can be said...

Post positions and reactions...

http://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/s....aspx?id=59860

Was reading your tweets... I guess you're pretty high on City Style.

Not using that one... I like Thumbs Up even with the bad draw, New Rose Wood and good old Waikato for the Cup.

There's still time but thinking maybe Better Be the One and Mr.Big in the KrisFlyer...

Such a fan of so many, especially Cali Memory but I suppose you've got to take a stand somewhere so that's where I am right now.

Geez isn't anyone else planning on playing these?

I was shocked to learn they are taking betting in the US, but they are, and it's great. Will be very interested to see what value is offered in pools v. on-track.

I like City Style and Zazou for Cup, Sprint is wide open, and think a local could even land it.

Sticking with my picks after looking over and over and over...

Mr. Big
Ato and Invincible Ash underneath

The Cup...

Thumbs Up
New Rose Wood
Waikato, California Memory and Zazou underneath

Good luck!

How's the weather out there?

Of course I can google it but since you're there figured I'd ask you first.

Good luck!

Oh and I am very very happy that TVG already has the races up cause that SUCKED waking up the other morning and it was already race 4 (I had looked repeatedly the night before).

edit - Forgot to say it's too bad we can't bet on all the races.

R7 - Masthead
R8 - The Comedian, Mr. Raffles and Jamal Malik
R11 - Eclair Flyer

Just for the hell of it.

Always Certain injured and out...

Well I had this anyway... thank you Ato and Mr. Big...

May. 20, 2012 03:09 AM CC04C8017019 Singapore 9 $1.00 EX 5,8 / 2,3,5,6,8 $8.00 $105.70

Did not use Chinchon anywhere and am really really surprised at that one (that he won, not that I didn't use him).

How much did that suck for you with City Style being scratched at the gate?

KRISFLYER INTERNATIONAL SPRINT
JOCKEY QUOTES

Barend Vorster – Winner - Ato - I had the perfect trip, the only decision was whether to go inside or outside when I challenged. It is just fantastic to have won this race, I’m so very happy

Stephen Baster – 2nd - Mr Big – He’s got the biggest heart, but he slipped at the start trying to jump too quickly. Without that I am not saying he would have won, but he’d have gone even closer.

George Baker – 3rd – Secret Asset – He broke OK but couldn’t quite lay up with the leaders. I had a really lovely run around the bend, a gap opened, and he ran on well for me. He’s better on a faster surface, but really, he’s run a blinder.

Oscar Chavez – 4th - Captain Obvious – He has run very well, no complaints at all.

Kieren Fallon – 5th - Krypton Factor – I knew I was in trouble from the gate when the rain came. He just can’t act on this ground

Joao Moreira – 6th - Better Be The One – The draw killed him, I had to use too much horse up early to try and get a position, and he didn’t finish.

Gary Carroll – 7th - Invincible Ash – I had a good trip and she travelled well, but when I asked her she never picked up on the ground. We know she needs fast ground and the rain came at the wrong time.

Jose Verenzuela – 8th - Perfect Pins – He didn’t handle the turn, and couldn’t get round the bend, he lost too much ground

Danny Beasley – 9th - Yin Xin – He pulled up lame. He’s had issues this week.

* * *

SINGAPORE AIRLINES INTERNATIONAL CUP
JOCKEY QUOTES

Olivier Doleuze – Chinchon – Winner – I can’t believe it, I’m still up in the air. I’ll come down to earth in a day or so. It means an awful lot to me to win this race in Singapore. I was one of the early ones to come out of Europe to ride here, which makes this special. I had a good trip and he improved his position when I asked him, and he finished really well.

James McDonald – Zaidan – 2nd – He’s run a great race, but he didn’t quite see out the 2000m here but he would do on faster ground.

Jose Verenzuela – Flax – 3rd – He’s run his race, he broke well and kept going all the way to the line. The others were just a bit too strong at the finish.

Andreas Suborics – 4th – Zazou – Disappointing, as I was in a good position, had a good trip, but he just didn’t pick up for me.

Alan Munro – El Dorado – 5th – He’s run a great race, done himself proud. He’ll be spot on for the Gold Cup later in the year.

Danny Beasley – New Rose Wood – 6th – She ran to the best of her ability to the 200m then the class of the others kicked in. If you asked me at the start of the day where she’d finish and I would have said midfield and that’s about where she finished.

Felix Coetzee – California Memory – 7th – He wasn’t on his game today. I don’t know if it was the ground or what. He’s been on the go for a while.

Gerald Mosse – Dream Peace – 8th – She was going OK, but she got tightened up on the bend, lost about five lengths, and couldn’t recover from there

Brett Prebble – Thumbs Up – 9th – He’s a big long striding horse and he was never acting on this surface. It was loose on top with the rain that fell and he lost his confidence going into the turn, and that was that.

Azhar Ismail – Speed Baby *– 10th – We were struggling at the 900m mark and first time blinkers seemed to throw him a bit.

Opie Bosson – Waikato *– 11th – He travelled nicely to the 800m where I put him under a bit of pressure but he was gone by the 600m. He wobbled up the straight and he just wasn’t happy in the ground.

Mickael Barzalona – City Style - Scratched at start.

Oh and cheers to good old El Dorado as this was his 5th time around.

I know you were very high on the filly (well okay mare) but yes, that you were all over Ato as well and the 50/1 play was crazy awesome.

Congrats and applause to you for pointing out repeatedly that the locals are a tough bunch.
