![]() Rollins released from hospital
By CHUCK DYBDAL Jockey Chance Rollins, critically injured in a June 11 spill at Bay Meadows was released from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and returned home Tuesday. Rollins, 36, suffered a severe head injury when Dr. Ramos, his mount in the third race, bolted toward the rail dislodging his rider, who was thrown over the rail, landing in hardpan dirt inside the rail. Rollins was not breathing when medical assistance reached him but was resuscitated by track physician Dr. David Seftel and transferred to Stanford Hospital where he was kept in a medically induced coma for two days. He will continue outpatient mental and physical therapy and has indicated he hopes to ride again. Rollins finished fifth in the Bay Meadows standings with 19 victories and has 2,164 victories in a career that began in 1989.
