Default Xchanger, CoBlue Out; T-berg, WildCrazy In

In possession of a reliable report that indicates Mark Shuman's Xchanger will NOT enter Derby 133 whether he is sold or not.. If correct, Jamie Sanders' Teufelsberg would make the field as the 20th starter..

If Xchanger and Cobalt Blue are both out, what happens?
Cheloke and I'mawildandcrazy guy are both not coming, correct?
Does that make reporting for duty eligible?

Cobalt Blue is on the fence. They should be making a decision real soon. But I think he will run.

Cobalt Blue is NOT out.. Last night at the Trainer's Dinner at John E's, O'Neill indicated that he wasn't happy with Merv Griffin's colt's workout and might pass the race, which is where the story originated. HOWEVER, this morning, after a spirited gallop over the CD main track, O'Neill reversed field and said he was inclined to 'go' with the San Felipe winner...

His gallop this morning was above avg. I heard a conversation with some reporters and O'Neill and O'Neill said he would call Merv and make a decision in the afternoon.

Oh wow, ok. Sorry if I posted incorrectly on the Tiago thread. The Target Louisville guys were very confident that Cobalt Blue was out, even after the 2 minute lick. I miss Frank Lyons!!!

Chelokee is NOT running no matter what happens in the next 24 hours. Imawildandcrazyguy is 22nd on the list and would make the field if Cobalt Blue does demure.

Default Cobalt Blue out of Derby

http://www.drf.com/news/article/84487.html

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Cobalt Blue has been withdrawn from consideration for Saturday's 133rd Kentucky Derby, which paves the way for Teuflesberg to get into the field.

The decision to skip the Derby was made by owner Merv Griffin, who didn't think running off a seventh-pace finish in the Illinois Derby and a subsequent subpar workout last weekend at Keeneland was the right thing to do by the horse.

On Tuesday, O'Neill was encouraged by the way Cobalt Blue was training since he put blinkers on the colt on Sunday.

"I think it all starts with the Hawthorne race - that was so disappointing," O'Neill said Tuesday. "I think his last workout at Keeneland was very questionable. The time was fast, but [exercise rider Tony Romero] said he was just really lackadaisical.

"Merv said don't run that horse just for me. If we need to bring him back home and find a different spot let's do it.

"I put in a little bit of plea because the colt is a talented colt, but at the end of the day it's probably the right move."

I adored Merv before (the man's infectious and hey he got a horse race shown on the Late Late Show) but I'm even more of a fan now. Classy guy. I was really concerned for Cobalt Blue after his last effort and that the Derby would eat him alive. He's a nice horse, he doesn't deserve that. Way to go Merv.

I'm sure Teuflesberg's folks have a spring in their step this afternoon.

I respect the horse TBerg. He'll be game as usual. He'll finish a solid 5th or 6th or 7th.

be sure to check out the 'bookend' contest on that thread--maybe you'll have better luck this year!
