Default Xtra Heat's Little Boy

My all time fave, Xtra Heat's first foal Southwestern Heat, finally broke his maiden today at Laurel Park. He's now being trained by Tim Salzman, son of his mama's trainer John. Ain't that sentimental???!!!

Anyway, the race was a 30K MSW at 5 1/2 furlongs. Here in MD, we race fans all breathe a sigh of relief and are very happy about this. There is little else to commend the MD racing circuit.

The horse ran a vastly improved race...going 5.5 furlongs, it led by 8 lengths after a 1/4 mile through 21 and change fractions, and won in hand by 13 lengths, in a solid 1:03 1/5th for 5.5 furlongs as the even money favorite.

Seems like the trainer change helped.

Damn, fast time, too, 1:03.36. $40k 3YOs went 1:12.54 for 6 in the previous race...

Xtra Heat, of course, was one of my all time favorites too.

Was he the grey running while Sumwon was in the Paddock? Ran over to the OTB and saw some horse winning with ease on the next T.V.

Lousy OTB feed
Might not have been the same race. I saw Southwestern Heat as a yearling at Taylor Made, he was built like a bulldog.

I've got a nice photo of Xtra Heat being led by Tim Salzman, Southwestern Heat's trainer. He's got some good stats going and learned well from his papa. They will do right by this colt, who seemed misplaced and mishandled when he ran a ChCh. The fractions were impressive, huh? And it looked like SWH takes the turns just like his mama...same with the fast start out of the gate.

Her Storm Cat did a furlong in :10 flat. Wonder how much he's gonna go for?

I heard from someone who was there that Southwestern Heat was pretty fluid and they guessed although Xtra Heat wasn't exactly a miler, this one might get up that far.

Heat ran and won some tough 7f races--beat the late, great Carson Hollow and that Lukas sprinter in a G2 (can't remember the name). Gone West is always talked about as being a miler, but we can't forget his Came Home with the heart that was big enough to take him extra distance.

Can you tell me more about the Storm Cat colt? I've been trying in vain to track him down. What sale? Price? Buyer?
