Default I think Baedeker should be put down

I've thought about this a lot recently, and discussed it with myself as well. My belief is that it should've been done after the $10,000 pick six he hit. The extent of his victory and subsequent loses were massive. Every analyst, other than Schrupp or Bray, would have been put down. Add to it the negative coverage that comes from such a high profile hit and the work to save losing picks makes sense. I think the analysts try for losing picks, but that doesn't excuse what happened here. If Mr. B could speak coherently, and it's possible with the right kind of diet and supplements, he would apologize for that winning ticket. In fact he had another winning ticket a few weeks ago....I don't see this having a happy ending. I think the mistake was made during the summer of 2005 and it's being compounded. Again, the analyst lover in me thinks he should be put down. There is nothing noble about keeping him around to give winning pick 4 and pick 6 tickets.

He'll tell us when he's had enough. Now we just have to understand him.

Bob is funny. His family has been in the business for decades. I believe Bobs brother is pretty high up in the ranks at Hollywood. I also believe that Bobs family has something to do with Los Al.

Bob has made it clear many times........He will go into fetal position if he can't get action. He would bet on a fight between 2 drunk Indians.Bob is a pretty upbeat guy(especially for a dry drunk.)These guys on TVG have to keep pick 4 tickets at $48 or so.Not like on here (where guys put up 4 horses a race($256,) and claim they are geniuses.)

If you watched Baedaker on the Sunday Los Al show, you couldn't help but notice that all of the kids in the background were hanging "get well" cards on the set. Many of those kids drove miles to get a glimpse of their hero, and Bob, being the champion he is, persevered through another magical night of handicapping. Much like the Babe hitting that homerun for that sick child, Bob made it through the first leg of the early and late Pick Four, only to bow out gracefully when his locks failed to hit the board in races 2 and 7 respectfully. God Bless you Bob. Keep up the fight.

Guess you missed it when He Hit the P6 last year for $96. I think it paid over $10G's. It's not easy being a handicapper let alone a public handicapper for people like us to continue to throw darts at them. Just ask Blackthoated or our Leader Steve how easy it to be a public handicapper. Well Steve has had many good days in the SUn this past year, so perhaps we should leave him out. How Many of the famed public handicappers made a big scores on BC day?

While I'm actually not a public handicapper I did very publically crush the BC card this year ( as opposed to most years ). But, I agree, the job of a public handicapper is a thankless one. However, the general incompetence of many of them is inexcusable.

I honestly don't even know who the subject of this thread is and only found the author of this thread's allusion to another thread on this forum to be what was amusing about it.

Obviously it takes balls to go out and be a public handicapper and it's a very high risk low reward type thing, because people are always going to criticize. But, obviously this thread was a joke and just some good natured ribbing.
I Understand your point. I guess its fun to poke fun of other people, every now and then. I know how it goes. I grew up in NYC/NJ Metro area. Saw people having fun at other people expense everyday some in a humorous way, others in a mean spirited way. I honestly have not met the man. Have no personal ties. Nothing. Been watching him for years on TVG, and his handicapping style is my fathers handicapping style if you know what I mean (old school). Some of the "Old School" concepts still apply today. The guy is not a bufoon/idiot as being portrayed in my opinion. Maybe Steve can get him on ATR&B and perhaps we could find out how much of a joker he really is?

Horse racing people are some of the most opinionated people I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Lastly, I am hoping to find an occasional serious discusion about handicapping on the site. Thats what I like to do. I'm hear to learn, discuss. You have to weed through the lots of BS to get at it.

I was actually sitting one section over from Steve Crist at Churchill that day and past you a few times on my way to the windows. It should have been the day of days for me. Had a good day but.... should have been the alltime best. My picks for that day were posted on the TG board.

I guess I was taking umbrage to the guy trying his best, is not a total bufoon, has had a few good days in the sun, is certainly an old school handicapper, and I'm sure he's on TVG to appeal to the older viewers point of view.

If you are in Vegas for the NTRA/NHC contest next weekend I'll introduce myself.

No, I won't be at the contest, but I will be at the Handicapping Expo so if you're at that be sure to say hello. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet at the BC.

I meant no disrespect to the the TVG guy at all. Frankly, I haven't seen five minutes of the network in my life as we don't get it in Manhattan ( as ridiculous as that seems ).

Sorry if I offended you there Tony. I should have known that people might misinterpret a thread about euthanizing Bob Baedeker as being serious business.

I am guilty of more than my share of BS, but I think behind all of the BS there is plenty of horse talk going on. And plenty of ball busting, but hey can't we do both?
Yes of course. it wouldn't be horseracing if we didn't.

Sorry for being a little "sensitive" to the ball busting, just wanted to bring to light the other side of the coin as a matter of being just, at least this one time, anyway.

That is simply unfair to Jan Rushton.
