Default Turfway cancels KY Cup stakes

just saw that kentucky cup day has been cancelled. not a good sign for that track, or for ky racing in general.

Yes, just saw that, too Trying to keep daily purses high enough to prevent ongoing drain of horses to other states with better purse opportunity.

Churchill already announced last year that horse racing isn't the business model for profit for that corp.

Soon all we are going to have left in this state are the spring/fall boutique meet, where purses come from auction income and are independent of the health of the racing arm of the industry in the state. That's a cycle that isn't self-sustaining.

If they eliminate lasix on race day, there won't be a trainer that will stay in the state. No reason to.

While the situation worsens at Turfway, things at Kentucky Downs are looking up......
