Scav, will they you go back there to take a look? I am pumped about this trip. We are going to Saratoga in the last week of July/1st week of August of 2007. I am heading to the Baseball Hall of Fame and then to Yankee Stadium while I am there. And of course to bet on some ponies.

You do not want to drive it. It is a traffic mess.

Take the amtrak down to penn station and then the subway to the stadium. The only problem is the amtrak only leaves a couple times a day and takes 4 hrs to get to NYC from Saratoga Springs.

Greyhound is a little cheaper but it sucks. It does leave a bunch of times a day though.

You can also take the LIRR from Penn Station to Floral Park right next to belmont park, or there is a train that goes directly to Belmont, which is really the best track in the world.

How can driving be any worse than what you describe? Sounds like at least 4.5 hours and you're at the mercy of a bus/train schedule.

I could swear that they have tours and that I have a picture in front of Mantle and Joe D, I could be wrong though.

I was too young to really APPRECIATE that and the baseball hall of fame, I think I would get more from it now

2.5 hours is doable. 4.5 hours was a stretch. Thanks Randall.

Sounds awesome Scavs. I cant wait. I remember when I went to Detroit to see the last game before they tore it down I was in awe because of the all the great players that played in the stadium. Couldnt imagine the awe I will feel stepping into Yankee Stadium.

You could sit in traffic for up to 2hrs just to get out of the stadium. You also can't drink if you drive. Atleast that is how I look at it. I drive into Yankee Stadium from right near belmont park and it takes forever. Shea is basically right around the corner.

If you aren't staying in NYC or near Yankee Stadium maybe you should drive but if you are staying in NYC a car is a waste.

If you drive, it should take about three hours. It's a straight shot down 1-87 (NYS Thruway). I'd get off at Suffern, take 17 south to Rt 4 east to the Geo Washington Bridge. Then get on the Cross Bronx exp way. Right after you cross the East River, take the Major Deegan south to Yankee Stadium.
Figure 3- 3 1/2 hours (without tie-ups).
The Base Ball Hall of Fame is in Cooperstown. Take 1-90 to I-88 west. That's after you go south to the Albany interchange from Saratoga. Take 1-88 to the first Oneonta exit (Emmons/Colliersville) then north on State Route 7 to Cooperstown. That trip should take no more than an hour and a half from Toga.
If you're headed to NYC from there, figure about 3 1/2 hours as you have to go back east before you go south.
I could tell you another way where you'd save 1/2 hour but it takes too much time to type. Safe trip!

It is not 2.5 hrs. It is about 3 hrs from Saratoga Springs to the Bronx but it will take you 5-6hrs door to seat, just like the train. The traffic near the Stadium is a nightmare.

The tour is ok and is pretty cheap, like $10-15. It really isn't anything special though but try to do it simply to get to the stadium early which will save you a nightmare trying to get in around first pitch.

You people are dreaming if you think it'll take 2.5 hours to go from Saratoga to Yankee stadium.I drove from Queens to Albany at a steady 70 miles an hour and it took me 3 hours and Saratoga is about 35 minutes from Albany. You're not going to hit any real traffic until you get near the Tappan Zee bridge. It also depends what time of day you do it,but 2.5 hours you must be driving a masarati.

Yeah, when I was 12 years old(15 years ago), my dad and uncle took myself and my cousin out east for four weeks, went to every baseball park possible

Veterans Stadium, Shea, Yankee, Fenway, Pittsburgh, old Baltimore Stadium(man what a neighborhood that was in, that was my first dose of REAL life), Cooperstown, and forgetting one stadium...

Also saw bootleg historical stuff(Statue of Liberty, that bell in Philly) that I wasn't too thrilled about but I think my dad and uncle told my mom and aunt that we would go, make it a little easier to see 4 weeks of baseball.

They are people who just punched it into a computer and it probably says 2.5-3.0 hours. Anyone who has driven it knows it could take up to 6.0 hrs if traffic is really bad. There usually is 2.5 hrs of traffic alone at the bridges and waiting to get to the stadium.

Mermaid,
Your times are accurate. 3 1/2 is about right.
Try this next time. Instead of going up to the Tappan Zee and then getting on the Thruway, go across at the Geo Washington to NJ. Take either RT 80 or RT 4 west to 17 north. Get on the Thruway at Suffern.
You'll save 1/2 hour.
The hypotoneuse of a triangle is shorter than its other two legs, if you know what I mean.

I drive a van with commercial plates so i'm not sure if you're allowed on the Palisades parkway.in NY all roads that say pkwy are off limits to commercial vehicles.

I'm 48 years old and grew up in an area of Manhattan called Washington Heights.I would catch the A train at 168th street and take it to 145th street and change to the D train and take it i think 1 or 2 stops to the Bronx and 161st street and River avenue which is right where Yankee stadium is.To this day if i go there i drive to Forest Hills jump on the E train and take it to 7th avenue and change to the D train. No way in he ll i'm driving to the stadium.
