![]() Yeah but you'd have to consider the results skewed a little bit because 71.3% of his results come from one runner, that being David Junior. Interesting list nonetheless...

![]() Pleasant Tap is one of those stallions that is always consistently good and can be gold for a breed to race outfit. But, with that said, his foals dont sell particularly well.
Also, as much as I love him and Red Ransom, its true their ranking is skewed by their big horses. Then again, thats the tale for 95% of the list... What impresses me most is when a stallion is a bargain at his fee but can also get you a nice profit in the ring... two stallions in the top 20 meet that criteria. Maria's Mon is sitting pretty at number 5 right now. What a great stallion who imparts stamina to our speed oriented pedigrees. His get seem to do well on just about any surface and they're selling well at sales. But the big story to me is Grand Slam. He's sitting 18th but his biggest earner is Bella Shambrock. Who??? That means his leading runner is less than 4% of his total earnings. You can make the argument he has 200 foals of racing age but he's got 80% of them making it to the track. Thats an incredible percent in this day, let alone with a commercial stallion with his numbers. You wont find another stallion in the top 20 with comparable numbers... just thought it was interesting and he deserved some recognition. Unfortunately, Coolmore puts a stigma on most their stallions, but some do deserve our respect. |

![]() you said it Balletto. Pleasant Tap doesn't sell for real high prices because he doesn't have the hype, the PR the high priced stallions have...

![]() But you must remember that because PT stands for $10k the breeders can still make a profit if his foals sell for less than those charging a 6 figure stud fee. Of course, the more popular PT becomes the higher the fee. He did breed to 91 mares in '05.

![]() i like pleasant tap, but as was said here, most of his #1 spot is earned from one purse. i'd rather see a horse at or near the top who doesn't have one huge earner.....
oh, just turned to the most recent list, red ransom is now #1, tap to #2. i'm more impressed (going down the list) by maria's mon, stands for 25k, derby sire who is currently #6 overall....3.9 mill, wait a while is his leading earner w/ 790k. or thunder gulch, also 25k...his leading earner is balance, w/ 387k.
