Default Belmont Racino?

Paterson, Skelos propose development at Belmont thoroughbred track

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Betting on gambling as an antidote for hard
times, Gov. David Paterson and state Senate Majority Leader Dean
Skelos are proposing further development of the century-old Belmont
thoroughbred track on Long Island.
Skelos, head of the Senate's Republicans, is calling for video
lottery terminals.
Paterson says he already has administration officials starting
to consider options.
Skelos last week joined Paterson and Assembly Democratic leaders
in endorsing a project to expand gambling at the Aqueduct
thoroughbred track in neighboring Queens.
The Delaware North Companies plans to add 4,500 video slot
machines, a hotel, spa and conference and event center at Aqueduct,
and is to pay the state a one-time fee of $370 million and share
VLT revenues.

Belmont needs to be blown up and redone for the next 100 years of theather racing. While stunning it is a white elephant. NYRA should race at Aqueduct for 2 or 3 years while they demolish Belmont and re build it with 10k seats and small betting rooms catering to the players (all 3000) that frequent the place.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver
says he's against installing lucrative video slot machines at
Belmont race track, throwing a road block at a proposal pushed by
the Senate and Gov. David Paterson.
Silver says building a video slot center at the historic track
on Long Island would compete with video slot machines already
planned for nearby Aqueduct race track in Queens. Silver, a
Democrat, says revenue to the state and racing would simply be
split, not increased.
Paterson and the Senate's Republican majority proposed slots at
Belmont on Sunday to raise revenue as the state faces multibillion
dollar deficits over the next three years.
But opposition from Silver, who spoke Monday at an event in
Rochester, would block the plan.

I'd be happy to see one VLT in operation at Aqueduct first . We'll worry about Belmont VLTs later .

So are all of the incompetant people who have ran NYRA into the ground in recent years going to remain in power after VLT's and or any other financial help is brought on board?
