Default Scav's Derby Vacation Timeline

Alright folks, here it is, I am guessing I will forget some things (Like the names of all the horses that I have pictures of, like EVERYONE SAID I would) but I had an absolute great time on this vacation. I am as tired as I have ever been.

Thurs 6:30am - As awake as I have ever been this early in the morning, off to get friends in multiple locations
Thursday 9:30am - Finally on road with three of four friends, enroute south to pick up last friend
Thursday 2:30pm - Switch to EST time
Thursday 3:30pm - Call Bigsmc because I get inpatient, have him bet $60 Win on 6 horse in baby race, get the call, EASY winner, first ticket, first cash (never a good sign)
Thursday 5:15pm - Arrive at Caesar's Palace next to what I think is a power plant across the river, call Bigsmc to see if he wants me to come and get him at Churchill. Bigs wants to see last race, Scav wants to play blackjack
Thursday 8pm - Forget that I was suppose to pick up Bigsmc at Churchill and left him standing out front with his something in his hands for two hours, Bigs does not yell at Scav
Thursday 8:15pm - Go get Bigs bags, drop off at his hotel, and go sit back down at blackjack table to continue to get smoked by Asian dealers
Friday midnight - Go to sleep
Friday 2am - Rookie traveler with us comes into room, turns on every light possible while I am sleeping, and opens up his bag like he was a gorilla looking for a banana
Friday 2:30am - Rudely awaken by hotel security as first friend has been escorted out of casino for drinking 24 beers in one sitting, which according to security the next morning, is the limit they can serve according to Indiana law
Friday 6:30am - Pick up Bigs ON TIME
Friday 7am - Arrive at the barn with swift thinking ("This guy has a horse working in 5 minutes and we need to get to Chuck Simon's barn" - As Scav points to Bigsmc)
Friday 8:30am - Scav's camera is OUT OF BATTERIES again, absolutely unbelievable, Chuck gets his camera and lends to Scav so he can get multiple pictures
Friday 9am - Scav is told to keep eyes on all horses walking by, while he is chillin with Appoint, Aldebutante is being walked so Scav puts ass firmly across barn, only to not be paying attention to Appoint, and she scares the bajesus out of him when head goes on shoulder, Scav jumps to barn ceiling
Friday 9:15am - Chuck states "Scav, you are in charge, I got to go do something" in a joking manner. Little did he know that Cherie did need help. As Albin was coming off, Cherie tells Scav "Come over here and put this shank on him" Scav responds "Are you out of your mind". La Reason says "Grab this" so Scav grabs it, and then puts it shoulder high. Albin see leather strap and GOES BISERK, thinking I was going to hit him, almost dumping Cherie, older guy comes over and helps out.
Friday 9:25am - Scav goes over to E Major and has pep talk, sings her Rocky theme song and nicknames her "E Winner".
Friday 10:15am - Cherie yells at Scav for calling her Sherry
Friday 10:25am - Scav gets a hold of actual whip and starts acting like a jockey, would have been a great one if 165lbs left and 10 inches shorter
Friday 10:40am - Time to leave and get Bigs to the track, and go get my friends
Friday 11:30am - Friends are ready, and we are ready for first infield experience
Friday Noon - Park in some guys front lawn, what a great experience
Friday 12:15pm- Get to the infield and liking what is going on, see one race and get a call from friend saying "GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE, the rain is coming
Friday 12:45pm - Try to stake out spot in grandstand holding area where there was only 4 TV's, one of them not working
Friday 1:30pm - Scav is ready to kill tellers that have no idea what they are doing
Friday 1:15pm - Scav is ready to whip person in front of him in head as he is betting about 50 $2 tickets FOR THE DERBY, ON OAKS Day
Friday 2:30pm - Getting very tired as standing on concrete is killing muscle structure, THE RAIN COMES DOWN IN BUCKETS
Friday 2:45pm - Wanderin Boy is needed for large pick three, still wonderin around looking to see where he finished
Friday 4pm - Scav tells friends that 5 horse has shot to wire field in turf race because on speed and crazy amounts of rain. Scav looks like genius, with no win money on him
Friday 5:50pm - Scav alive to late pick three to three horses, one of them late scratch. Churchill decides NO SOUP FOR YOU as they roll the rail and 2 horse Wisconsin Girl blows up very large payouts for Scav, still got the consolation
Friday 6:30pm - Rain is pouring down, Scav is getting frustrated, decides to lead birgade to car in the rain, just a little water.
Friday 6:40pm - Just a little wet, drive back and drop Bigs off so he can eat/drink/handicap, get back and shower, get some food and back to blackjack table
Friday 9pm - Back in room after getting smoked again, handicapp some and pass out around midnight
Saturday - 8am - UP and RARING to go, all is well, friends on good behavior last night, everyone refreshed
Saturday - 10am - Arrival at Churchill Downs, find seats, Seats are in GREAT position, last section of Grandstand seats, get to see Derby gate break and all races on final turn. Very happy with seats from Churchill Downs
Saturday 10:15am - Scav goes to windows within Section 225, finds 15 windows that are open, stand back and yell "Which one of you 15 tellers has a clue how to punch a ticket" Two raise hand, I pick one and tell him "Punch this P3 ticket, Race 1, 4 / 1,2,3 / 1,2,3...He punches ticket flawlessly, first one to do it yet, tell him "You get $20 to bet on Derby if you keep this line short"
Saturday Noon - Bigsmc showing his handicapping talents to Scav's friends, in awe
Saturday 3pm - Scav needs Ventura or Sharp Susan to win for large P3, um no. buffoon central in the race, Ventura had a great trip, pace never materialized when Cornhelio decided to pull off
Saturday 4pm - Scav ready to kill Bejarano for moronic ride on Hystericallady. LEARN HOW TO READ A FORM, you weren't the only speed in the race
Saturday 5pm - Scav keys Denis of Cork in Tris as stated in previous thread...
Saturday 6pm - Scav sees two older guys posing for pictures in front of garbage cans, see pictures for complete hilariousness
Saturday 6:15pm - WHOA. Big Brown just sticks it in Scav's ass with an absolutely amazing performance
Saturday 6:16pm - Seat 80 is out the door already
Saturday 6:20pm - 90% of Churchil crowd is GONE
Saturday 7:15pm - Scav getting pumped for E Winner's possible performance
Saturday 7:45pm - watch race from finish line, E Major comes back healthy and runs a good race first time out
Saturday 8:15pm - Scav and friends head back to casino for DINNER, eat the farm and get it comped
Saturday 10pm - Scav overeats and doesn't feel good, wanders around for little while
Saturday 11pm - Scav goes to sleep because has to pick up Bigsmc at 5:45am, CAN NOT BE LATE
Sunday 5:30am - BIGSMC calls Scav, Scav in dead sleep, AWAKENS and enroute to get Bigs
Sunday 5:50am - DAMN GPS freezes and we end up going to Indianapolis, Bigs flight about to leave
Sunday 6:05am - Bigs off at airport, possible trouble as security is out the ass aggressive
Sunday 6:20am - Scav goes back to sleep
Sunday 9am - Wake up again, get ready for trip home
Sunday 11am - leave to go back to Chicago

Thank you to all my friends from this weekend.

Hank is so awesome. So hilarious, Cherie just jumps off and Hanks just stands there without a care in the world. No one around him.

My favorites are 25 (Elite Squardon pulling away) and 103 (Colonel all ears)

I know that I have a couple of E Winna and Aldebutante in there, but I can't figure them out....

yeah, I couldn't have gotten any luckier with them. They were perfect. I could see the big screen to my left, and see them breaking from the starting gate for the Derby, AND see the final turn each time.....If you were a section over, you were pretty much screwed with no TV accessibility.

Churchill really REALLY needs to put some money into that place, they had 17 inch monitors for people to watch. I couldn't believe it. Arlington has 35 inch flat screens everywhere now.

I gained a greater appreciation yet again for what Arlington offers the locals, the racing might be kinda hilarious, but the facilities are absolutely beautiful.

I think the craziness might have been hampered becuase of the rain on Friday. We got into the infield and watched one race, and then got a phone call saying to get the heck out, so we were pretty much in the same area inside the rest of the day.

I plan on rolling down again sometime soon, probably for the fall meet, and seeing the track on a different day, the place looks huge, but I was just not impressed with things. No machine, bad tellers, no TV's....Byk's BBQ stand was rocking and rolling though, rocked that pretty good on Friday

It really sounded like an awesome time, rain and all. Probably not the best day to try to enjoy and evaluate the facilities. Kind of like Saratoga on giveaway days and Travers week.
I am actually jealous, my derby day included trips to Freehold Raceway (just beautiful this time of year) and trying to wrestle the remote control out of my sons hands as the horses were getting into the gate. For a kid who likes horses he showed bad timing by wanting to put Spongebob on 18 seconds before the race!
