Both are overpriced.
In 4 years both will be half thier initial fee.

Seriously? Street Sense may be a little more brittle than we are made to believe but Hard Spun? The horse has enough speed to win at 6f and enough stamina to carry that speed over a good route of ground. Throw in the turf possibilites and I think he may turn out to be a stud (pun very much intended). He also seems as sound as they come these days. Also, no Storm Cat or Mr Prospector so the possibilities are endless.

There is no such a thing as a cheap covering fee these days. Having said that Van Nistelrooy was very fair last year in my opinion.

However, i think $50k for Hard Spun looks very inviting. I would still prefer to send a mare to him than Street Sense if they were both the same fee.

Hard Spun has just kept improving all year and if we could have seen him next year i think he would have got even better.

The horse has the speed to win over sprint trips and yet finished second in the Classic when the other speed horses finished in a different zip code on Saturday, That effort deserved plenty of respect, even though he won't ever get it.

I quite think his fee will go up after his first crop hit the track, whereas Street Sense will probably fall.

Being by Danzig, i expect the european breeders might be fairly interested, too.

Hard Spun also showed he could do it both on dirt and on Poly, which could also factor into his first book, with so many good racies to be run on synthetic surfaces in the coming years.

Sorry, not quite sure how i missed this post, but i did.

I very much agree with you, i think Hard Spun will be a hot prosect as a sire. If he doesn't get a very good book of mares next year i will be very surprised, especially at that price. I expected a little more actually. I thought maybe 60 or 70k.

EDIT: include into that how strong the British pound is compared to the dollar, and the british breeders will be 'getting to him' for less than £25k

Hard Spun = Leading First Crop Stallion 2011.

I bet the book of mares they have lining up for him is going to be better than Street Sense's. This will be Affirmed and Alydar all over again. (With a bit of a stretch on the racing career analogy)
