1962 Travers Jaipur-Ridan

Hello folks.
On Steve's program yesterday, when he was speaking to Bob Fox, Steve mentioned a Travers race that he stated was something he makes sure he watches every year when they show the Traver's races at the Spa. He mentioned the 1962 Travers Jaiper-Ridan, where he said it was essentially a match race between the two for 1 1/4 miles.
Ashamedly! I had not heard of these horses, nor this specific race, so I went online to look for the video. I could not find it! I checked the Saratoga website, Youtube, and a host of other websites that mentioned through a google search. Anyone know where I can watch this video? I would love to see it!

I was thinking of that race over the weekend and looked for it to no avail myself.

I know on exists because I have watched it before on TV, but apparently no one has put it on the internet.

I have a horrible memory, but wasn't part of that race call used for the opening of the NYRA replay show when Harvey Pack was hosting it?

I'm sure I viewed that on Youtube, but you can find it online somewhere. That was a good crop of 3 year olds. I watched it on network TV when they had the weekly "Race of the Week". I was a Jaipur fan and happy that he won, but as a DRF reporter wrote, "am not so sure that the best horse won". I believe that when they met again, Ridan won convincingly.

yeah, i remember that race pretty well. STG sure got a weird trip!

one interesting thing about that race. how many six horse fields has anyone ever seen that had 4 horses from it end up being stallions with stud fees in excess of 100k?

A weird trip is putting it mildly for Seeking the Gold. He should have won the race by open lengths. Who was his pinhead? Pat Day? Just guessing because he was a Phipps horse. And also Brian's Time who was not a 100K stallion was a damn nice horse in his own right. Wouldn't it be a treat to have a field like that assembled again, rather than a bunch of trainers dodging each other? This year's Travers is a joke. At least Carl N. sets out a course and sticks to it.

yeah, i was being polite in describing STG's trip. something i'm usually not prone to do when it comes to jocks.

as for brians time, i may have him confused with someone else, but i thought he went to japan and became one of their top 2-3 stallions

I figured you were thinking of the 4 as 49er, STG, Dynaformer and Evening Kris. I may have mixed that up as EK I would guess is by Kris S, who IS a 100K+ sire. Anyway, I haven't heard anything about BT, so Japan makes sense.
