That was ugly. . . He had a chance to win too but that doesn't matter now. . . This will NOT be good for the sport after what happened at PIM last year. . .

That was horrible. I was very surprised that ESPN showed the spill again.

Very nasty. The vet just reported that a bone broke and the ankle dislocated. The bone broke through the skin.

Default Mending Fences, radiographs?

Wow that was nauseating. Glad the Robby and Eddie are ok. They didn't euthanize immediately, they're Mending Fences back for radiographs but it's a compound fracture, right front, dislocated ankle which is why he went down. Obviously infection's a problem since it broke the skin but dislocated ankles are pretty dangerous to blood flow right? Even if there'd been no fracture beyond that? I was just wondering when they make the decision to euthanize right on the track. Did he get up after?

messed up...

Sounds pretty bad.
And they did not put him down immediately...
These decisions are tough.

That is so sad. Must have taken a bad step? I had Einstien singled in my pick 3 and 4 but I just cannot feel bad about losing a couple bucks after seeing that. Poor Mending Fences, more bad publicity for this sport of kings.

yeah, robby just bailed. He should never be a steeplechase jockey. Einstein never had a chance though once Mending Fences went down. He had to jump the fallen horse and there is no way IMO that he would have got back into the race.

Apparently, Castro rolled under the rail before the other horses got to him. Good thing, too. Cosmonaut nearly stopped dead, Einstein unshifts Alborado. The Storm Cat curse strikes again.

yeah, I guess he should have jumped over the fallen horse, held on, and made a big run for the wire. makes a lot of sense.

Just said they euthanized him

I think they showed it because no one actually saw it the first time

Yeah, I had Cosmonaut in my Pick 4 (singled Chelokee, of course); he checked severely and still ran second by barely a length. Moral victory, worth nothing at the window.

Not the worst breakdown I've ever seen - that's tied between the San Luis Obispo on President's Day, 1973, when Tuqui and Autobiography both broke down, independently, and the 1982 Marlboro Cup, when Timely Writer went down and took out half the field.
