Default Moping...

The riding stable in Manhattan is closing next week, after being in business over a century. I'm really bumming- this will mean at least an hour each way to the next closest riding stable for me.

I have not great hopes for the rest of the week after the way it started out.

Geesh... the more I think about it, the more disheartened I become. It just seems like nothing in this world is cherished anymore.

I am so sorry. You have got to be devastated.

I can hook you up with my trainer who is heading to Long Island on Tuesday. I can call her after work and get the address of where the barn is that she is going to be working at. It is somewhere on Long Island.

Kinda sucks that this barn that has been in business for so long is closing. Seems like that is happening everywhere.

That's so sweet of you, but I don't have a car, so it becomes very difficult to go anywhere outside of the 5 boroughs. Ah well. I'm going six, count 'em, six times to the stable this week to try to use up my remaining tickets and to say goodbye. There are a lot of people crying there today (I stopped in on my way to work).

I thought she may be too far from you.

Take a ride in Central Park! And take a lot of carrots and apples with you. What are they doing with the horses?

Genuine Risk,
I'm saddened to hear your news.
I hope you find a place close by.
Have you ever tried polo? A Long Island club winters their ponies up here in the Catskills. They have some nice ones, and sure could use some excercise.

The guy who owns the place claims he will be taking the ones who are still useful to the place he owns in Maryland and will retire the ones who are too old to have a lot of time left, but one of my friends who rides there too is really skeptical of this. I will hope for the best- many of those horses really deserve to be retired and spend the rest of their lives outdoors. If I could afford it, I'd take one (though three of us are discussing trying to chip in together and adopt one of the old guys).

Me, I'm skeptical as to whether I'll see my outstanding balance back after the place closes. They claim everyone will get what they're owed, but we'll see.

I hope you guys can chip in and get one of the old guys. Do you know of a retirement place for it? I so would love it right now if I had a farm. Problem is I would take on too many. I know I would. I always say if I could I would have fifty horses. I will say a few prayers that these guys find wonderful homes.

How far ahead do you have to pay for lessons? We only pay for a month at a time.

We would buy them in packs of ten (if you have a steady class, that's about 2.5 months at once), and the new semester had just started, so I'd only used 2 of them. So I'm riding a lot this week to use up what I can.

One of the women there told me today numerous people were making offers for the horses, so I'm feeling more hopeful that all of them will wind up with homes, even the old guys.

I'm sure you checked the riding academy/stable in brooklyn queens area right off the Belt Parkway.

Plus you can always hop on the LIRR and come out here to Long Island. There's three located within minutes of my house in Nesnconset.

I tried to talk her into that Storm. She said it was too far. My trainer in FL is heading up that way soon.

I've been to the one in Prospect Park- which is the one in the Bklyn/Qns area?

Are the stables off the LIRR within walking distance? I don't have a car, which makes getting around outside the five boroughs tough.

On the bright side, the dressage teacher at Claremont (the one closing) says that there is a bus stop 2 blocks from where she teaches outside the city and that I can take much needed lunge lessons there- Claremont is too small and so I've never had them.

The stable closing is very much the rancid olive in my martini of misery this week. If I'd been having a better week maybe I wouldn't be taking it so hard.

Genuine

On my Florida horse board, they are even talking about the closure of this stable. So even Floridians are sad over your loss. They had nothing but kind things to say about the place. They were worried about the horses so I quoted what you said about many people asking about them.
