Default ROI Results 7/15 @ Saratoga

Well we are back at Saratoga with what is considered the best meet in the country. At least
in the top three. The racing was to say the least not boring and we did have two players show
a flat profit. The underlying story is the two players who did not show a profit with both missing
big scores by a nose each. Ruffian and Indian Hemp had the card figured out pretty good but
a bob at the wire didn't go the way they would have liked. The graveyard of favorites also cost
Joly a nice score when Gold Sweep missed the break. Zippy cashed two tickets but fell short
of profitability. The other two winning bets were registered by Digger who cashed a ticket on
Pirate in the first and the winning ticket was enough to get Digger the place spot. This week's
winner however was Cal who hit the exacta in race 9 17 times for an overall profit on the day
of $17.30. Nicely played Cal. Congrats on the win. Both Cal and Digger maintain profitability
on the year but still have a ways to go to collar Indian Hemp. Following are the unofficial
results pending an inquiry. See you all next week.

WIN... Cal828... +$17.30... R9 $17 Ex 2,8//2,6,8 $6.90 X 17... $117.30

PLACE... Digger... +$5.00... R1: 1 ( SHOW $100 ) $2.10 X 50... $105.00

Zippy -$26.10 R1 $2exbx 1-2-5-6... $14.40
R8 $2exbx 5-7-8-10... $55.50

Indian Hemp -$95.00

Joly B -$96.00

Don Guido -$96.00

Real Quiet -$100.00

Cruzan -$100.00

Ruffian -$100.00

So how is everyone holding up weatherwise? Yesterday was the first full day in about two weeks that it did not rain. Put an empty 5 gallon bucket out on my deck when the rain started a couple of weeks ago. Rain filled it up to within an inch of the top. Some storming at the beginning and the top of a tree in my neighbor's yard broke off and knocked out the power for a couple of days which is kind of miserable when you have an all electric home like mine. Guess, I shouldn't complain. Rain moderated the usual heat that one expects in July in Arkansas, but that was only a brief respite. Hitting high 90s and a hundred this week. I've seen a couple of models of where the worst of the heat is supposed to hit and it looks like Hot Springs just on the edge of the really bad stuff so maybe we'll be spared a little bit, but probably not.

Nice win Cal, evern a dollar to the good is a win. Good job to Digger too.

We had a one day break here from the swelter in the DFW area yesterday, highs in the low 90's and a "pleasant" breeze. The ocassional front comes though with some rain for about half a day then leaves as quickly as it came. Rest of our week heats up again 105 106 etc, etc, etc. October can't get here fast enough. All that said no records have been broken, with most of them set in the summer long 1980 furnace. It was so dry our nasty gumbo clay soil opened up cracks you could lose a small dog in, they were everywhere. That summer was just wicked.

The terrible weather, fires and floods are worldwide. Mother Nature is telling us she doesn't like what we've been doing to her. I'm not sure it will get any milder and not sure the general population will ever learn.

Friend of mine in New Jersey told me it was windmills causing all the problems. I laughed. So funny. When we were young and in college, he was a very liberal person, but now he has become this super conservative. Strange what a few years will do to your outlook on life.

Cal, there's a lot of that going around. We have just gotten our power back after being out for about 7 hours. A tree across the street made it through several days of heavy rain, but chose to fall onto the power lines on a clear, dry afternoon.

It has been very rainy as of late. The normal rainfall for July 1 until today is just over 2 inches. So far, we have had over 9 1/2, including more than 3 inches in just a few hours on Sunday morning. A few towns to the west of us had enough rain to wash out some smaller roads and culverts. Still, we have not had any of the truly serious flooding problems of our friends up in Vermont.

Yes but it takes you longer to bake things and boil water

I cook most of my own food. I am painfully frugal so don't eat out much. After my wife passed, I couldn't cook much of anything other than burgers on the grill, but have added to the menu a bit, but still pretty simple stuff like, soups, pasta, omelets, meatloaf, pizza, chile, tacos and even quiche. Yeah, I know, real men don't eat it, but I thought it looked simple to make so I make that from time to time.

My son comes home from Little Rock about every 3 weeks. Have decided not to inflict my cooking on him, although he has never complained about it. So we go to town and Eat at Rocky's Corner which is directly across from Oaklawn. Very good Italian beef sandwiches with Au Jus or we eat Chinese or pizza or one of the many chain restaurants that every town or city has.

Live long and prosper. As for the rest of us unrepentant carnivores and omnivores, maybe the end will come quickly and without pain.
