Default Victoria Derby

DId anybody else see that race? What an incredible turn of foot that boy Efficient has! He now has won 5 of 6 (he muffed his debut). A Zabeel son, from a US-blooded mare bred in NZ (Defensive Play-Florida Jig by Jig Time).

That was incredible, but I'll wait and see if he recovers from the race before I get really excited about him. The race is 2500m, and I think it's way too early in the season to be running this distance. Some of the field are still actually 2 years old. Only 1 of the last 7 winners has won another stakes race, and some of the others haven't even raced again afterwards.

There are calls for it to be reduced to 2000m (Kentucky Derby distance). I think that's a fantastic idea.

But yes it was a superb run, and I really hope he recovers and goes on with it.

Also really pleased with the run of Seachange in the Myer Classic. Wish she'd won but it was a great effort for 2nd.
