Some horses seem to get bet based on what they did in one or two races far in the past, or the ambitions their trainers had for them at some point. "Oh, that was one of Zito's (or Pletcher's or Lukas' or Baffert's) Derby hopes last year." The fact that said horse hasn't been able to get past its second condition after a dozen tries doesn't seem to register.
