I know it's heresy to bring up this topic on the eve of Breeders Cup in the US, but I was wondering if anyone had any insights into this year's Melbourne Cup (to be run Tues, 5 Nov in Melbourne; late Monday night in the US).

My son is currently going to school in Melbourne and will be in attendance - would love to provide some guidance.

I liked Fiorente's run down the stretch in the Cox Plate - looks like he's ready to run a big one in the Cup. Looks the likeliest winner to me.

Silent Achiever if she rediscovers her A game, but she's been a bit off so far this spring. But I'd love to see her do it.

EDIT: No, Silent Achiever's out of the race with injury.
