Default F-T OCT (10/21-23): GCO's Yearling Watch List

Yearlings to Watch at Fasig-Tipton October
By Glenye Cain Oakford

FASIG-TIPTON.COM

SALE VIDEO (10a): http://www.fasigtipton.com/fasig-tip...amingVideo.php

Fasig-Tipton's October sale, which runs from Oct. 21 through Oct. 23, features a catalog of 1,130 horses, including some with notable pedigrees and a handful that have had eye-catching updates thanks to recent stakes wins by siblings or half siblings.

The auction, which takes place at 10 a.m. each day at Fasig-Tipton's Lexington headquarters, is particularly attractive to sellers with later-foaling yearlings who have benefited from extra time before heading to auction, though there are also some horses on offer that were foaled early. Most are Kentucky-breds, but the catalog also has strong contingents from Indiana, New York, Ontario, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ontario, as well as two from France.

Here are just a few of the catalog's noteworthy entries whose pedigrees or conformation make them worth watching.

Hip 6 - Taylor Made Sales offers this Bluegrass Cat colt, a half brother to Fiftyshadesofhay, who has racked up three graded wins and three grade I placings this year at 3. The bay colt is out of another grade I-placed female, the Real Quiet mare Quiet Kim.

Hip 33 - This English Channel filly's a half sister to a pair of stakes-placed competitors, but the family is even more interesting one generation back. Her second dam is four-time grade I winner Versailles Treaty, who also produced Breeders' Cup winner George Vancouver and graded winner Saarland. John Stuart's Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services is the consignor.

Hip 133 - The Gainesway agency's Malibu Moon colt is out of the Canadian stakes-winner Social Director, by Deputy Minister. He's a Kentucky-bred half brother to Canadian grade II winner Dream About, who went on to produce a U.S. graded-placed stakes winner in Sleepless Knight. Another half sister is stakes-placed Britannia Road.

Hip 191 - This colt is half brother to Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) winner Sinister Minister and by the late sire Indian Charlie. The Pauls Mill agency offers the colt, who is out of the stakes winner Sweet Minister, by The Prime Minister. Also in the family are graded winner Prospector's Flag and major earner Kechi.

Hip 254 - The Woodford Thoroughbred agency's Congrats filly is out of Trolley's Last, a Fusaichi Pegasus half sister to Unbridled's Song .

Hip 384 - This Distorted Humor colt is out of Canadian Broodmare of the Year Annasan, by Corporate Report, and is therefore a three-quarters brother to Canadian champion 3-year-old A Bit O'Gold, graded winner Arcos' Gold, and stakes-placed Adjalah, all by Gold Fever; like Gold Fever, Distorted Humor is by Forty Niner. The Hill 'n' Dale Sales agency consigns the Ontario-bred.

Hip 393 - Consigned by Peter O'Callaghan's Woods Edge Farm agency, this Candy Ride colt comes from a deep family that includes champion sprinter and successful sire Smoke Glacken under the second dam, along with graded winner Smokey Glacken, graded-placed Capote's Crown, and Crowning Touch, whose son Crown of Thorns won a pair of grade II races and was runner-up in the 2009 Breeders' Cup Sprint. The colt's dam is the stakes-placed Sky Mesa mare Argyle Pink.

Hip 401 - This Ontario-bred Arch colt got a flashy update earlier this month when his 2-year-old half brother, We Miss Artie, won the Breeders' Futurity (gr. I) on opening weekend at Keeneland. Offered by Bernard McCormack's Cara Bloodstock, the bay colt is out of Fusaichi Pegasus' winning daughter Athena's Gift, a half sister to graded-placed Rushin' to Altar.

Hip 529 - Gainesway's agency fields this full brother to grade I winner Midnight Lucky. By Midnight Lute , the gray or roan colt is out of Citiview, a full sister to Hookedonthefeelin. That's the same family as Pussycat Doll, Jimmy Creed , and Funny Feeling.

Hip 543 - This son of hot sire Tapit is from the family of champion juvenile Boston Harbor and is out of a stakes-winning Storm Cat mare, Cloudburst. Craig and Holly Bandoroff's Denali Stud consigns this half brother to 2013 winner Thunder Shower. Also highlighting the family: Devil in Disguise, a Canadian stakes-winner out of Cloudburst's half sister Bay Harbor.

Hip 593 - The Bluewater Sales agency brings this Street Sense half brother to 2013 Dwyer (gr. II) winner and Travers (gr. I) second Moreno. His granddam, Canadian champion Dancethruthedawn, is a daughter of the great Dance Smartly, a U.S. and Canadian champion and winner of the 1991 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I).

Hip 600 - The Hunter Valley Farm agency's bay filly is by currently fashionable War Front and out of Daunbeforehemast, an 8-year-old winner by Mizzen Mast . The dam is a half sister to three stakes winners, including graded performers In Franks Honor and Don Juan A. Farther back, the family traces to grade I winner Broom Dance, dam of the graded-winning sire End Sweep.

Hip 701 - By the late star stallion Unbridled's Song, Glencrest Farm's bay colt hails from the family of grade I-winning millionaire Victory Speech. He's out of the stakes-placed Forest Camp mare Floresta, who also produced a four-time winner by Malibu Moon. Four Star Sales acts as consigning agent for the Feb. 15 colt.

Hip 704 - This Malibu Moon filly in the Taylor Made consignment is out of 2005 champion juvenile filly Folklore. She's also the dam of the winning Distorted Humor colt Immaculate.

Hip 736 - Paul Tackett's dark bay daughter of Horse Greeley got some grade I polish on Keeneland's opening day. That's when her 2-year-old half sister My Conquestadory, also bred by Tackett, won her second straight start in the Alcibiades Stakes (gr. I). In her debut, My Conquestadory won the Summer Stakes (gr. IIT) at Woodbine on the grass. The filly is just the second foal from the stakes-placed Malibu Moon mare Golden Artemis, whose family also includes the millionaire multiple graded winner Kelly Kip.

Hip 881 - Selling through the Mill Ridge Sales agency, the bay filly is bred very similarly to multiple grade I winner and track record-setter Quality Road : she's by his sire, Elusive Quality , and out of Kobla Cat, a half sister to Quality Road's dam Kobla. The filly is Kobla Cat's first foal.

Hip 893 - This colt, a gray or roan like his fashionable sire Tapit, is a grandson of graded winner Solvig, an earner of more than $800,000 in her days on the track. He's out of the Giant's Causeway mare Lady Solvig and has three winning siblings. They are 2-year-old The Best Love, a Corinthian filly who recently broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park; the English Channel filly English Crossing, a six-figure earner; and his full brother Marine Patrol. The Taylor Made agency consigns.

Hip 924 - One of a handful of the catalog's Medaglia d'Oro yearlings, this gray or roan colt is a half brother to dual graded winner Listen Here, stakes winner Indy Bird, and a pair of stakes-placed runners, Listen and Parade the Flag. Nardelli Sales offers this son of Listen Now, a Storm Bird mare who is a half sister to grade I winner Listening and grade I-placed Beautiful Noise and Solar Echo.
