Default KEE botches P3 payoff and... *crickets*

Horseplayer advocates seem selective about who gets assailed when a payoff gets botched or a rule gets trammeled. Not a peep.

Keeneland pays out wrong pick three amount
By Matt Hegarty

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Keeneland Racecourse acknowledged that it had miscalculated the payoff for the pick three wager that ended in the sixth race on Wednesday's card, but the acknowledgment - made just before the ninth race - may not help many bettors. The miscalculation affected any pick three wager that was live going into the sixth race, the third leg of the bet. The sixth race was moved off the turf shortly before the race went off because of a powerful thunderstorm that moved into Lexington midway through the card, but after betting on the pick three had closed.

Under Kentucky's rules, if a race is moved off the turf after a multiple-leg wager has closed, the race becomes a pick-all for all bettors. Keeneland, however, paid off the bet to the winner of the sixth, the 9 horse, who paid $91.20 to win, with consolations tickets on horses who scratched. The first two legs were won by the favorites, and the $1 pick 3 payout was $144.30.

I get the point of your post, and it is well taken. However, keep in mind that the Kentucky rule, if applied properly, better protects the public than the rule in New York does. Due to quirks in the current NYSRWB rules, if this occurred in New York, the pic-3 bettors would not have received "ALL" in the last leg; they would have had to properly select the winner of the third leg to be paid.

" Due to an error, Keeneland wrongly calculated the payout for the Pick 3 wagering ending in race 6.

Because the race changed surfaces AFTER the wager began, it should have paid for the 2 horse in race 4, the 10 horse in race 5, with “all” horses in the sixth.

Following the conclusion of today’s races, Keeneland will re-calculate the payout for that wager and winning tickets may receive the corrected payout after that time. If you have a winning Pick 3 ticket, please check Keeneland.com tomorrow for details about the adjusted payout and how to collect your winnings. "

If I wagered through the internet I'm covered. I'm wondering if it would be legal (or feasible) for Keenland to request or demand the return of the money paid out to the actual winner of the 6th race from the ADW sites ?
