Default BC moves Mile up in race order..

Saturday, Nov. 5 (all post time EDT)

The official race order for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs indicates some changes from the tentative order released several weeks ago. The changes occur Nov. 5, the second day of the event. A panel of racing directors and racing secretaries met Oct. 25 to discuss the race order after pre-entries were taken the previous day.

Race 1: Allowance, 12:05 p.m.
Race 2: Stakes, 12:35 p.m.
Race 3: $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon (gr. II), 1:20 p.m.
Race 4: $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT), 2:02 p.m.
Race 5: $1.5 million Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I), 2:37 p.m.
Race 6: $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT), 3:21 p.m.
Race 7: $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I), 4:01 p.m.
Race 8: $3 million Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT), 4:45 p.m.
Race 9: $2 million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I), 5:25 p.m.
Race 10: $2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT), 6:07 p.m.
Race 11: $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I), 7 p.m.
Race 12: Stakes, 7:40 p.m.

Glad to see they were/are willing to make moves like this. The Turf could be a smallish field again, and sort of a let down pre-Classic... but not anymore.

I'd move it up more to get more people involved earlier in the card. When Goldlikova runs, people are going to pay attention.

I think they should run the races in alphabetical order.

$5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I)
$1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I)
$2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I)
$1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT)
$500,000 Breeders’ Cup Marathon (gr. II)
$2 million TVG Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT)
$1.5 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint (gr. I)
$3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT)
$1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT)

This makes way more sense to me and is much more attractive to both casual fans and serious bettors.

Hopefully the Pk-3 with ALL/Goldikova/Uncle Mo/ will pay what the similar combo paid last year, though that is unlikely. I think it was an $80 horse followed those two last year. My dad had it.

I like the Goldi/Furthest Land/Conduit P3 from 2009 that paid $1050 for a $1... just find that bomb that goes with the two at odds-on...

It only paid $190 but still decent given the two odds on.

The Juvy does not feel like a deep spread race.

For me it might be one of the more chalky races of the 2 days. If its not one of the big 2, it feels like its going to be Alpha or Drill. I cant see either of them being over 8-1.

Moving the Mile is partly about Goldikova and partly about Euro participation. Over the last 10-15 years the leaders of the 12f category in Europe have simply not come to the BC. The milers however have continued to show up at the highest levels. The Mile has been for many years a better race.

If only they could space the races even further apart.

Last time it was at Belmont the BCT drew several top Euros. Just saying.

That was 10 years ago. The race never superceded the Arc, despite the fact that when it was inaugurated the BCT had a purse about 5x that of Longchamp's 12f. Top milers have continued to come so I think it's fair to say that from top to bottom the Mile has been a stronger race over the last 15 years.

Any given year one race may be better than another (You could argue that last year's Juvie grass races were better than the dirt counterparts) but over the long term the dirt races are generally better races in terms of generating productive 3yo's. Similar with the Mile vs. the Turf. Once the top Euros stopped coming in droves the race weakened. Certainly the last 5 runnings of the Turf don't stand up to the Mile and that takes into account that the presence of Goldikova might ave actually scared some good Euro's away.

It was six years ago, and no American race will ever supersede the Arc. The Mile is a stronger race, but I don't think it's because of Euro presence. Other than Goldikova, I don't think the Mile has gotten any more European superstars than the Turf has recently. And the 2005 BCT at Belmont was basically a duplicate of the Arc.

I don't think so either, that was the bet it took to get Dakota Phone home. Not this years version of the PK-3.

That Dakota Phone race had chaos written all over it going in. Morning Line was the morning line chalk going in, and his second was really his break out performance.
As for this years Juvy it feels like 4 horses would all have to run really bad for anyone else to get the $.

No, pretty sure it is just for Ipad and Iphone.

It's pretty lame really.
