Default Del Mar Futurity

I haven't seen anything fresh on this board about this race ... one which usually has national significance.

Hey ... Left Coast posters ... what's happening with this race? Any good prospects?

And very little on the Pirates Bounty. Whats up? Its the last day of "the other summer meet" and nobody is saying a word about any of the races.

I think Captain Squire is a wonderful horse but wouldnt be too confident at a short price. Here are some questions that will determine the winner:

Is the Captain quick enough to outsprint Bushwacker early? I dont think hes as good a horse when hes not dictating the pace and it looks really dicey in here that he will be able to have the lead.

Is Old Man River good enough and is there a pace meltdown possibility?

Which Jet West shows up? The one who ran brilliantly at SA over the winter, or the one we saw last time? Did the Dubai trip take out his steam? This horse doesnt exactly love Delmar.

If Captain Squire doesnt go early, is Bushwacker a threat for all the marbles?
The trainer is only 6% with horses 2nd off layoff but this horse looks like he has major upside. He does own one race that would be good enough to win this.

Areyoutalking to me is a complete puzzle. Horse seems to fire but for one reason or another hasnt gotten it done. 0 for 8 since his Feb 05 score.

There's a lot of buzz about Prime Ruler but I'll take Horse Greeley, thank you very much.

Prime Ruler's debut was among the most impressive debuts this year by any two year old.
Basically he did every single thing wrong that anyone could think of and still won nicely and with a good figure.
After being wiped out and steadied at the gate, he launched a wide rally and then was very green in the lane. He still won 2 going away, and got a huge fig.
Hes the best horse I've seen on the West Coast this year by far. A grade one type animal. He should only improve and has been given the proper 31 days rest since that last start to avoid the bounce. Worktab is just what you wanna see as well. A maintenance move at a 1/2 mile, another maintenance move at 5f, and then a zippier 1/2 mile move 6 days ago to put him on edge for this one.
Pay good attention today boys and girls, the West Coast's chief challenger to divisional leader Circular Quay runs today, and his name is Prime Ruler.

I don't understand why people think we should talk about a race like the Del Mar Futurity.I agree it's P.R.,or H.G.,and I would not single either one. Some of these races are not difficult enough to warrant writing about.

Scuds I appreciate really good horses and if Prime was trained by a big name trainer his debut would be widely known and written about.
Because Paasch trains him, he has flown to some extent under the radar.
His debut was absolutely awesome, and I expect everyone to know who he is after the race today. Hes the goods.

I can't single Prime Ruler. He was forced to take up,and was left a long way back off a pace that appeared to be too fast (or the track wasn't friendly to the front.)So,I do not know his preferred style yet.I would guess he will rate about 3-5 lengths off.I would guess he will come flying again, but not putting all the eggs there.

Scuds he didnt break bad, he was wiped out. Big difference there.
WIth that speed he displayed once on track, don't expect him to be so far off today. Quite frankly if he displays the talent he displayed in his debut, and has matured even a tad in the past month physically and mentally, he should put on quite a nice show today.

Horrible betting race like Scuds eluded to. Like 2, maybe 3 possible contenders. One will be 4/5 the other 2 will be 3/1. Just a watch race. I hate 2 year old racing, I really do. Prime Ruler is no secret, everybody knows about him as his price will indicate.

Yea,it appeared to be a special horse.I just am not sure that H Greely is not also very good.In that 1st race(With Victor)this horse had a slow start, and was way wide the whole turn.Still came better than most horses would. Then he got tired, but still tried(and got 2nd to P Secret.)

Paasch is a good trainer, an even better story.. and, as Oracle said, this horse really is the goods.. not sure if he's as good as Pletcher's duo, or even TizWonderful.. but he should handle these pretty easily.

He was a price the first time he won. I've been watching PR since his workout at the two-year-olds in training sale at Barretts in May. He is an Orientate who is HIP #103 if anyone wants to check him out. Orientate is going to be a major sire. See the thread titled Circular Quay if you want to check out some of the other Orientate's that I like.

very nice call madam. He was quite good. I'm not sure what went amiss with prime ruler, but I sincerely hope it was nothing serious. His debut was quite promising and to run last like he did was a shock.
Upon watching the replay it looked as if he was off in behind when pulling up.
In any case the winner was great, and I'm not quite sure that Prime could have beaten him even if he had replcated his debut. The best horse certainly won this race today. Kudos.
