Default Breeders' Cup Turf

This race needs help.

If the Europeans aren't going to support, who will? Our horses? They're being pulled towards shorter distances, which makes for a very light and weak division.

Handle is pinched too. The Dirt Mile out-handled the BC Turf by $1.3 million ($9.3 million versus $10.6 million). The Dirt Mile did have a pick three. However, the double pool in the Dirt Mile was small because of it. The double pool in the Turf was huge.

If you take-out the multi-race wagers, for the second year in a row the Dirt Mile out-handled the Turf.

That said, the Turf has never been particularly strong in the field size department. Since 2000, there have only been four runnings with 10 or more horses. Four races with eight horses, and this year with seven.

We dont have G1 quality turf animals in the US. you can't pitch the race, just do a better job of selling it to the Euro's

I thought a few of the horses running in the Red Smith yesterday would have had better chances than our American contingent that actually ran in the BC Turf.

They should switch places with the Turf and the Ladies Classic.

Sure it would be nice to have bigger fields in the turf, if we didn't have the Filly/Mare turf I'm sure the field would be 10+ but that would take away a good race on Fri's card. In Europe, unlike The Arc you have small fields, Harbinger only beat 5 horses in the King George, Cape Blanco beat only 5 in the Irish Champion stks also, if Stoute didn't scratch 8 would have been a good number to start in a race and distance where North Americans don't really focus on. I thought yesterday's turf was one of the more interesting races.

Would Paddy O'Prado have made the field a little better? I thought (after entries were drawn) he would have had a better chance of winning the Turf than the Classic.

I think they need to seriously consider raising the purse another million.

It'll still be less than the Arc. Unless that race moves, the Turf will be subpar more often than not.

Agreed, the Turf is never going to compete with the Arc. But, with the Canadian Int'l 3 weeks prior and $2 million it takes horses that might run in the Turf.

How about a 10 million $ bonus if you win the Million-Turf Classic-BC TUrf.

Maybe they should take away the f an m turf and just make it unrestricted for a bigger purse.

That's actually a good point.

Me though, I say fugg those Eurotards. If they're dumb enough to not want to take down a huge purse with their second tier horses, let them stay at home.

Hell, even their third tier horses would fare well in the Turf. I'm sure some of them will wake up to the easy pickings eventually.

I think Woodbine pays for all travel expenses and accomodations too. With the BC, you've got to supplement, etc.

He actually ran "ok" in the Classic... the race collapsed so badly he was able to make-up ground.

On the inside no less. Is it just me that thinks that the rail was completely dead?

Make the race clock-wise.
