Yeah, him.

I think his new job is morning line maker at Presque Isle. He put on one of his finest performances of the meet in yesterday's 8th race.

* meet the 4/1 morning line favorite: He was a well beaten 4th on a gold rail at 99/1 odds last out. In his other start he was beaten 13+ lengths to Chateau De Negro.



* meet 5/1 morning line second choice Gentleman Caller: He was beaten 16+ lengths to Chateau De Negro - has a career top Beyer of 33 - and you can always count on a 4-for-98 trainer to get big improvment with a 5th time starter.



* meet 8/1 on the morning line Chateau De Negro: He was 2nd beaten a length at even money when racing against a bias and tougher horses at this same class level last time out. Two starts back he was unprepared for the start, broke slow and was forced to rush up and was 3 wide against a bias. He's obvious lone speed in this spot as well.




Chateau De Negro goes off at 7/5 from an 8/1 ML. The morning line favorite goes off at 19/1 and the morning line second choice goes off at 37/1.

This would make a good example case if Steve has another discussion on morning line odds on the radio show.

That was weird. In the long-running discussion of how much the morning line affects the betting, it would seem that in that race the betting public correctly tracked in on the true contenders, regardless of the morning line odds.

I turned in my picks for yesterday's card under the title 'Presque Isle Wed Selections' .. and someone new in the sports department thought it was a spam E-mail about weddings (since Presque Isle is where a lot of weddings happen) and they deleted it. My cell phone was off all evening and so for the first time ever - they ran a card without my picks.

I had the exacta in that race picked cold - it paid just $12.00 - and consisted of a horse winning who was 8/1 on the ML and a 2nd place finisher at 6/1 on the ML in a 12 horse field.

Had the picks appeared - I would have heard how those two horses got "Salvatore'd down" ... when in reality they went off at the odds they should go off at. It's a frequent thing where horses that are 5/1 on the ML go off at 4/5 - not because I pick them like a few goofballs upstairs think, but because those are the odds they should go off at.

Making a morningline is not as easy as it seems, I do it for a thoroughbred track....I will agree that is a bad morning line especially since the horse was a beaten fav going off at even money getting second place....you know that horse will be taking a lot of money again. The race I hate making a line for is a race of a bunch of state bred rats that everyone should be 20-1+...its never easy

There are always going to be some tricky races .. whenever you deal with first time starters or imports especially.

In races where you have all established form - and horses who've all run over the track - it should be pretty easy.

Fine work Dani..........I'm on vacation this week so I don't have the time or resources to put together a quality effort. But I did have 2 minutes to find a potential sidekick costume for young Douglass.

It's not about the Dutch. That is Johan Cruyff, a player from the 70s and 80s who happens to be Dutch but who also played for Barcelona and lives there now. Cruyff makes most lists of the top 3 players ever. I've used that avatar at times and put it up again around the time of the World Cup. But it is time for something new. Since the NFL season is just around the corner, I'll replace it with the one of Sean Payton holding the Lombardi through his sunroof.
