![]() The 1986 edition featured Danzig Connection winning Woody Stephen's 5th consecutive Belmont trophy dating back to 1982. This feat will likely never be broken. Danzig Connection beat Johns Treasure and Ferdinand over the sloppy oval in the 118th running. In a highly competitive affair, Peter M. Brant's Mogambo and Odgen Phipps' Personal Flag also were involved in the 1 1/2 mile contest. Actually, a "Northern Baby" colt - Rampage went off as the post-time fav in the race.
Also that day, Creme Fraiche (previous year's victor) ran in the Jaipur Stakes. King's Swan and Ziggy's Boy sprinted in the Roseben Handicap, while Ogygian and Groovy "squared-off" in the Riva Ridge Stake. All in all, a great day of racing !!! |
