Heres to the East/West Coast bias BS. I love CJ ,followed him on the derby trail, put him in alot of my numbers on derby day and finally struck it rich with him in the Travers.
And if your looking for a feel good story it isnt a mare beating the boys up on her home track it is the meaning behind this horses name and how they dedicated the Travers to the real John before the horse even won. And it sure looked like the horse put his nose down on the wire for him.
Heres to a long retirement!

The important thing is that I will never lose another dollar on him as I can't seem to help myself where he was concerned.

I would have loved to see him run on the turf a few more races....I think he could have made a big impact there.

I agree. He ran his turf race very well. I really thought he should have run in the Turf mile

If you were thinking of breeding to Tiznow get ready for the Colonel John pitch unless your mare has some real power.

I don't understand why he's being retired. It's ridiculous.

In today's environment, it's tough to argue with a decision to retire at 4. He was a good enough horse, and he certainly met the look test for a stallion. Like a lot of you, I sure wish we had a few more looks at him on the turf.

i agree.

he hasn't done enough to warrant retirement. and if this is as good as he gets, why would they think he's a good prospect? especially considering the current breeding climate....too many mediocre horses rushing to the shed.

The problem is his owner's can market him with claims of top form on dirt, synthetics, and turf.

I suppose they don't want to do anything to tarnish that by running him at 5, even though he was lightly raced this year.
