Default Fasig Tipton Saratoga

I haven't been watching too closedly but some decent prices coming out of the sale. Bernardini so far has had one go for $700K (out of Silvery Swan) and another for $1.3M (out of Storm Beauty).

AP Indy - Splendid Blended for $900K

"Not Sold" was coming up a lot. Sale topper so far was "Not Sold."

16 of 61 not sold.

Still a high-end sale. Still a sale of "have's" and "have not's" -- if you have the right product it will sell and sell well. Maybe not like a few years ago, but it will still sell well. If you don't, you could be very dissappointed.

As Blood-Horse stated, numbers were up across the board due to the "Sheik Mo Stimulus Package":

The gross revenue for the 76 horses that sold was $25,470,000, which was a whopping 40.3% increase from the opening session a year ago. The average price grew 10.7% to $335,132, and the median price increased 6.4% to $250,000.

To my surprise I realize I've never actually been able to watch a session start to finish, I usually catch just a bit because I'm not able to be home to see the whole thing on my computer. How long do they go?

PS. Love your avatar Sightseek.

So far this has been pretty fun to watch. Just saw that they're re-offering the Kingmambo - Imperial Beauty filly that went for big bucks. Was she the one somebody dropped $1M on and freaked everybody else out so they stopped bidding? The guy didn't have credit and I believe the implication was he was imbibing spirits. She was nice and will be back in place of Hip #202. I hope I got the filly in question right, but they throw around numbers so fast I'm not positive. We shall see.

The first time I ever stood near the ring I was scared to move in fear that it would look like a bid. Now I know some guys have "secret bids" and spots they stand at.

Thanks for the avatar comment!

I went to the CTBA sale today at Pleasanton, I think our sale topper was the Benchmark colt that sold for $32,000... what does $32K get you in Saratoga? The droppings from the million dollar horse?

Okay, who was this...

"A bizarre incident disrupted the early portion of Tuesday's session. A man seated in the front row opened bidding on Hip No. 151, a Kingmambo-Imperial Beauty filly, at a cool $1 million, taking everyone by surprise. With no other takers, the hammer fell, and in some perplexity the press corps and auction officials descended on the bidder, whom no one appeared to recognize. The man, seated with a male companion, signed his receipt as "Josh Mann," but then peevishly declined to identify himself. His companion said only, "He did this on his own," and also declined to identify the bidder.

The bidder was approached by Fasig-Tipton executives Walt Robertson and Boyd Browning as he left the pavilion. At first, the bidder tried to explain that he had a client who didn't not want himself or the agent identified on the sale receipt. The Fasig-Tipton officials tried to coax him into a private office with consignor Craig Bandoroff, who by now had joined the anxious group on the sidewalk. But the bidder, casually dressed in khakis and a madras shirt and carrying a plastic Mountain Dew bottle, took off at a brisk walk through the parking lot. Robertson and Browning tried to block his exit but were unsuccessful, and so ended one of the more audacious cases of bidding at a high-level auction by someone who was apparently drunk."

Dont worry, I'll bet that 32k colt will have more starts and earnings then the majority of these ridiculous priced colts at Saratoga.

Yup, just remember to tip that poor guy in the ring whose big job seemed to be scoopin' the poop. I'm sure if anybody was there in person, you'd then pick up the cash register noise as he filled each bucket with expensive excrement. I say they kill two birds with one stone next time and offer Fasig-Tipton Gourmet Coffee--you feed the coffee beans to the yearlings before the sale and (like I think they do with some sort of bird) wait for the horses to pass them on through.
