Default Very Interesting: Buddy's Song

So, Buddy's Song, dumps Coa and sets off after the leader on the rail. And, it looks, going into the turn, as if he's going to run right into the leader. And the jocks behind him all figure this to be the case as well and want no part of being near him.

But, phenomenally, BS CHECKS HIMSELF, pulling up, and manages to get from the rail to the outside for the turn. So, let me get this straight; after all the idiot trips I witness where jocks run up behind other horses and clips heels, or get into wrestling matches, this horse, on its own KNOWS not to run up behind another horse.

And, on an aside, I've been digging that wide chase move all day today. Now, someone explain to me how a horse that's put OUTSIDE a horse that's on the lead doesn't take this to mean GO. And it follows, from the empirical data provided above, that putting a horse, correctly, BEHIND the speed signals RATE.

This was not a coordinated/simulated effort between Buddy and the Fat Man.

That was one of the strangest races I've ever seen. Reminded me of a harness race where the pace slows so much all the horses run into each other behind... I've seen the lead horse disqualified for that tactic (many years ago). Buddy's Humor must have known it was Garcia and Chapin Beach who made him lose his jock, he got his revenge later.
