Default FLakes 4/27

An interesting 9 race card with 4 allowances, 3 of them open . PT 1:10 pm ET.
Race 1 (4.5F) Wheel'n And Able 5/24th - steady work tab for 1st race since 12/06/08.
Haileys Hero 5/13rd - last 4/13 work was a bullet 5F 1:00/2.
Race 2 (4.5F) Run Mikey Run (7/5) wonlooks to duplicate his season opening win of 1 year ago @ FL.
It's Magical (8-1) 4thcomes in off only 2 works . But he's got a history of good consistent figs . Shachner (9-2) 2nd $26.60 exhas
received 5 works from tainer Joe Aquilino and may be fit enough to finish in the top 3 here .
Race 3 (4.5F) Pa. shipper Mansion (4/1)scr and Louisiana invader Gold Classic (8/5)won have the edge in this one . Both have raced this winter and Gold Classic won on 4/18 @ FL. 11 year old Un Ochio 8/1 4th(110-14-20-15) is entered after running @CT this winter . She actually won there on 3/20 . SO trainer Henry Neville runs her back 4 days later to finish 6th . Brilliant.
Race 4 (5.5F) The overall speed edge goes to Kwik Bullet (6/1) lastand Thirteen Mil (7/5)won . This is Kwik Bullet's first race since 12/2 and he's had 4 avg. works to get him ready . Thirteen Mil is coming off a 2nd place 4.5F season debut on 4/17 . If you want to take a shot here try the fragile Dr. Charlie (8/1)2nd $21.80 ex . 2nd off a layoff . If he's healthy this plodder has the speed figs to challenge.
Race 5 1mi40 I'm going to go with horses that are routers . There are a lot of sprinters entered and a horse Athleague Ros (3/1) 4ththat the trainer has confused . Every route race this sprinter is in first in the stretch only to finish 3rd when he realizes it's a route . Blue Monster (4/1)2nd and Go Shorty (12/1)3rd fit the bill. Munro Bank (6/1)scr can surprise as well if past form holds . He improves coming off a 50s bris speed fig which he is coming off going into this race.
Race 6 (4.5F) Contentious race with 3 of the 7 girls invading from Aqueduct. And there are 2 four yr olds, 1 five year old, the rest 3 . 2 are coming in off claims from Gary Contessa . Just Another Story (5/2) 3rdand Straight N Narrow (2/1) wonwho is coupled with Mrs Holden (2/1) lastas the favs for Paul Barrow . On 3/8 Striaght N Narrow paired her career top first set on 8/26/08 also at FL . No reason to really go against this powerful coupled entry . Just Another Story (5/2) also ships in from Aqueduct and is displaying fine early season form . Logan's Regal Charm (4/1) 5this coming off an impressive 4 L win over First Crack and Tartan Plaid (see race 7 below) on 4/17 , FL race 3 on the replay. http://www.uptilt.com/content/16298/...ngArchive.html There are some fillies making their 3 yr old debut and they'll be in deep here .
Race 7 (4.5F) With the exception of Itscooltobesmall 6th(12 races) these are all lightly raced 3 year old fillies . Tartan Plaid (7/2) finished well at FL for 3rd on 4/17 after 3 races on the Aq inner . After 4 out of the money finishes at Aq this year First Crack (5/1) is coming off a 2nd at this distance at FL on 4/17 beating Tartan Plaid by a neck, race 3 on 4/17 . First time Lasix for the 3 yr old debut of Full of Sunshine (8/1) . Turf to dirt and first time blinkers for Ship Of Fools (12/1) who is not firing . This 4.5F race does not look to be loaded with speed and Tartan Plaid and Lilith's Dream (5/2) should set the pace in a race with many questions. First Crack2nd. Tartan Plaid3rd, Lilith's Dream won $13.80 ex $30.80 tri.
Race 8 for older geldings (4.5F) After 2 races this year at Aq and claimed from Richard Schosberg, venerable sprinter Gold And Roses4th is the even money ML fav . Hubbard (9/2)won, off since 7/12/08 and coming off 2 slow works at FL, should be on the lead shadowed by Large Popcorn (8/1) 3rdOff since 12/6/08 has never shown the speed to stay with these . After 6 mo off Jon Buckley trained Mr Windjammer (8/5)2nd makes his '09 debut coming from off the pace with Gold And Roses . Gold And Roses, Mr Windjammer .
Race 9 (4.5F) All of the horses in this field are making their '09 debut with the exception of Another Foose (5/1) 6thand I pick You (10/1)5th . Prior to 2/29/09 at Aq Another Foose was off since 2/07/08 . His '09 numbers have fallen off dramatically from '08 and this will be his first race for Donna Biretta since leaving the barn of Contessa. I pick You has had 1 race this year on 4/20 at FL finishing 6th. So what to do ? Go with No Lemon (5/1)won because he's 3-2-0-1 at FL and shows decent works coming in . Heirloom Thief (5/2)4th is by Cat Thief and ownerd by major FL stables My Purple Haze but his works have been so slow - no thanks. Try Lord Relincho (7/2)2nd $32.20 ex with No Lemon. He's put up decent works .
The best of luck. Looks like an entertaining Monday card.

Seven 4.5 furlong races? Sure this isn't Los Alamitos?

Most of the FLakes horses take the winter off and are coming off an extended layoff... they gradually increase the distances over the next few weeks. Pretty smart job by the racing secretary, actually.

I agree Phil . Give the horses the opportunity to succeed and move up from there if good enough . The track is also strategically located within comfortable invading distance of the NYRA, Presq Isle, and Canada . It opens up options for the improving horse as well as the horses waning in their careers . A very important track for NY .

Their newly built thoroughbred adoption facility for horses that have raced there is very commendable.
