What the f*ck is the "world baseball championship" and why does ESPN treat it like some significant sporting event?

It is like preseason football except we actually know some of the players

not to mention there is only so much college you never heard of tournaments that one can cover.

Why are they doing this again this year? Once every four seasons start the regular season two weeks early, schedule some doubleheaders during the season, and start the next playoff series as soon as the two teams finish their previous one and you could shave a month off the end. If you play the WBC then, when everyone is actually in shape and guys can pitch complete games then people would actually care. Even if they don't want to do it after the World Series they should only do it once every four years if they ever want anyone to care.

The pitching part is the main reason/knock (for me at least). You have the teams number one's pitcher coming out of games after 2 or 3 perfect innings. How can this give this tourney any kind of meaning/creditability. The whole thing is non-sense.
It is kind of a shame for the Neatherlands. What they did is amazing. You would think that if anyone cared, the magnitude of the upset would almost be comparable to the U.S upset of Russia in the olympics. But since the tourney is pretty much a farse, it will just go down as a footnote.

They love soccer, and they like basketball. That's about it. To them, the best sport in the world is a game called chainsmoker(pretty much they call it a life at 60 or so.)

Can't believe just how stupid the guy managing South Korea is. Ichiro is making contact with everything thrown anywhere near the strike zone, and they refuse to walk him(with 1st base open, 2 outs, a tie game, and guys on 2nd n' 3rd.) He kept fouling stuff off, and got a bad pitch. J's take the WBS in extra innings. Even if pitching to him somehow resulted in an out, it's still really stupid. Must be something cultural. Everyone is begging them to walk him.....Nope. To be honest, having these two Slasher-Hitter Asian teams play at night(on a cool heavy ocean air night) in Dodger Stadium is a bit limiting. A Korean did hit one out, but there must have been about 6 long drives that had good chances to get out in other big league stadiums.

Thankfully it is over. Now it can quit taking up space in my newspaper, on the internet and on TV.
