![]() Usually when a graded stakes race changes surface (comes off of the turf) it loses it graded status for that running. So is the graded stakes committee saying that turf and synthetic are the same surface or am i reading too much into this?
I got the following RSS from Bloodhorse. "The Feb. 16 Buena Vista Handicap, moved from the turf to Santa Anita's synthetic racing surface due to inclement weather, had its grade II status reinstated by the American Graded Stakes Committee." http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...tated?id=49315

![]() It's automatically downgraded pending review by the committee. This is the case for all races taken off the turf. In many cases, as long as it remains a strong race, it gets it's grade back. One thing about the synthetics is that "off the turf" usually doesn't mean diminished quality because almost no one scratches.
You are reading in too much. It's not saying the pro-ride is the same as turf, just that the quality of the race was not diminished by it's having come off the grass.

![]() It had to be a tough call
![]() You had a crappy race that no one would call Graded Stakes worthy, but it was crappy before the race got taken off the turf. So even with a handful of scratches and Frankel playing musical favorites/musical gomez, the quality of the race wasn't really diminished. At least Jibboom looked strong, even though she loped around unchallenged with 5 or 6 average allowance runners. |
