Default 1/24: Gulfstream; Santa Anita; Magna 5

Sunshine Millions and Magna 5 season opener has become something of an unofficial kick-off to the deepest part of the winter racing calendar. With a 10 week run that happily distracts players from the cold and dank, the "5" campaign marches us all into the heart of the Derby Trail and Triple Crown. From there, you look up and Saratoga, Del Mar and Breeders' Cup have suddenly come and gone! I initially wasn't sure if the new $1 minimum on the Magna 5 was the right call, but acclimation by players and a brutally tough opening week made me get in step with the wagering masses. Below I offer $25, $50, $100 and $200 approaches to the 'finnif'...

Deep and talented fields at Santa Anita and Gulfstream mark the 7th Sunshine Millions, a series that has been marked by some outrageous prices and memorable moments over the first 6 runnings. Miesque's Approval certainly captured elements of both price and momento when the $100 winner denied Jerry Bailey a last ride triumph... Enjoy this fun day of racing!

Default Hey Steve.....

The Golden Gate leg of Magna is Race 6, not the 9th. I got confused myself there for a second. Good Luck today!

I'll be doing numerous machinations of the following:

Leg A: 1,(6),(8)
Leg B: 1,4,6,9
Leg C: (3),8,(10)
Leg D: 1,5,6
Leg E: 7,(8),9,11,12

Depending on how you choose these would run you anywhere from $48-$200 or so...my admission on the D leg, I refuse to get burned at GG by Baze/Gilchrist, so I'm including the 6, Northern Station.

My main ticket play would be 1/1,4,6,9/3,8/1,5,6/7,9,11,12 $96 per $1

Longshot play in the Classic is 11, Famous Patriot. After seriously dull efforts at Hoosier in the Indiana Derby and at AQU in the Best of Luck, turned out for a while, comes back, nice effort in the Hal's Hope finishing 3rd to Delightful Kiss at 66-1. But, I'm with Steve on top pick here, Dry Martini. Win over the surface, at the distance, switch to Tagg, switch to Prado, coming off a bullet 5f work.

As I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago, I have never hit the Magna 5, so take it all with a grain of salt

Good luck all!
