Default Speeding Ticket

I got a speeding ticket in Texas 9 mph over the limit on a major highway.(route 10) $150 ticket. 2 points.

Problem: I live in Maryland. I received an advertisement from a lawyer who got my name from municipal court records. I would simply pay the $150 and still may do so but I'm concerned the points will increase my insurance. I'm not positive if Texas will share the info with Maryland.

The lawyer wants $50 to defend me and from what I can tell from the flyer I wouldn't have to appear in court.

Any advice?

This maybe to late for Port but may help others. Always ask for a warning!!! I have a few friends who work for the State Police and they swear if you are polite and ask for a warning it is granted more than half the time. You can't be going warp speed or be pissed and give smart ass answers. I was pulled over once since the advise, and was given a warning,

Hope it helps.

I was pulled over last week and begged for a warning. It worked... thank God.

I had a similar situation before but in South Carolina and I don't live there, but it was WAY over the speed limit and mandatory court appearance. I was leaving the country a few days later for 2 months.
I was advised to contact the S. Carolina bar association for a referral.
Which I did, got a very good referral of a lawyer that frequently handled these types of cases. Fine was reduced, points not added and it all worked out well, and I was able to go overseas, cost me a good bit, but then again mandatory court so it was worth it.
I would suggest contacting the Texas Bar Assoc. for a referral. Good luck.

my husband got pulled over in louisiana, they said pay it and they would not report it to the insurance company.

most states 'give you nine'--just pay attention to what time of the month it is, towards the end of the month, they might not give you so much leeway. but i flew by more than one trooper to and from chicago, not even a flash of lights.

I would say over 25 years ago i got caught for speeding in Indiana while driving with a co-worker of mine.My NY license was suspended.I quickly asked my buddy for his license and at that time pictures were not on drivers licenses. It was late at night and we both hadn't shaved so we looked pretty beat up.He told me i could pay for the ticket and took us somewhere to get a money order and watched as i put it in the mailbox. After that we were on our way.My co-worker and i were the same built but their was a 15 year difference in age.I got away with one there.

I don't advocate speeding by any means, but 9mph over is ticky tack, especially considering what's out there. Good luck.

Being in the "biz", I would tend to agree....

The legend of those eyes prceeds her.
And when those lashes get batted...

Yes it took over a year after the initial hearing which was held 3 months after the ticket was issued in July of last year. The lawyer asked for a continuance and it was finally settled last week after two other court appearances by the lawyer making a total of four times he had to appear.

I'd say he earned his keep for $40.
