another one at Del Mar ? it is so sad to have all these breakdowns esp. at these tracks that "passed a safety inspection" like Del Mar and Arlington.

A shame.....

I added him to the Angels thread this morning..... Knights Templar is gone too.

Rest in peace, both of you.

god that story is sad--that not only did the incident occur but then he had to wait and WALK to the ambulance. Even though a compound fracture=death, I hate to think that he had to endure any extra suffering.

From what I've heard, both the turf and the dirt are terrible at Del Mar this year. The turf course is like cement. It's got to be the fastest turf in the country by far right now. It's like a paved highway.

One of my trainers is afraid to run horses on either surface down there. He's run a few and they've run fine but he's scared to death of both surfaces down there. He's keeping most of his horses at Santa Anita most of them will skip Del Mar. Santa Anita has had a lot of problems too. They had to close the track for 10 days to do tests on it. They found some abnormalities in the base and think they have fixed it. The turf course at Santa Anita is actually very good. It's got a decent amount of cusion too it. The best dirt track of the three Southern California tracks was Hollywood but that is closed right now and while it is being re-done with a poly-type surface.

We're anxious for the new track at Hollywood to open for training which they say will happen around September 8th. We feel like it will be the one safe place for our horses to train.
