For all the talk about how racing is dying and a failed sport and how it is wrong for casinos to "subsidize" racing, here is an example of a place that does everything right and yet is getting hurt badly by casinos.

"The club, which gives all its profits to charities and community projects, holds horse races on two tracks, takes bets on international soccer matches and overseas horse races and runs a lottery."

Interesting how American tracks get blasted for wanting other forms of wagering yet it isnt much different than HK which many hold as a model track here.

And for all of the talk and outrage about the filly that was put down after the Derby, where is the outcry about drag racing and the death of Scott Kalitta? Shouldn't we be more outraged about a sport that kills a human athlete than we are about a sport where an equine athlete dies?

The hypocrisy of complaints about horse racing as compared to other events is appalling....

Did you or anyone else wonder if, when VOR won HOY over Viva Pataca (and Dr. Ho, owner of the 3 Vivas and Macau billionaire had a fit )... was that a little slap in the face? Was it intentional?

Now i love VOR to death and think he should have won but i know people over there thought Pataca was a shoo-in.

Dr. Ho is a BIG casino owner.

I like to think of horseracing as an intellectual sport, obcourse there are those that are just looking for a gambling fix and will go to where ever they can get theirs. Knowing abit of the people from that area of the world, I think Shatin and Happy Valley will survive, the thing that will hurt the most are the charities the track helps out on a regular basis.

Horse has a choice in the 'correct' hands. But not all trainers would tell their owner that.

I love racing obviously but your comparsion is really suspect.. Scott made the decision to race... Eight Belles was bred and trained to do it... Peta does care if a horse dies running thru a fence on a farm they care if the horse dies doing something it doesn't do on it's free will.. Like horses haven't been working for mankind since the being of time. PETA sucks but I don't get the comparsion either
