Default 2YO Experts

This is from a thread on 5-28:

I simply made an observation:

Watch out.....

....for Saarland's first crop.....They look nice.

And the breeding afficiando that calls himself "Indomitable Drugs" stated:
The DT stock has now hit it's 52 week low after that last comment.

Well Collegiate, 2YO Filly by Saarland just put on a phucking clinic in the Belmont 2nd!!

You got any other 2yo advice that the fine members of DT should follow this summer?

Jan said "out of" in the paddock too. That filly looked good. She's a 1/2 to The Student.

I think the Saarlands look alright. There was one at the Keeneland Two Year Old Sale that looked really good. Pletcher ended up buying her. I don't know her name but she is out of a Storm Cat mare named Joying. Keep your eye open for that one.

I bought one but already sold it. I thought they were pretty ordinary as a whole from what i saw. I really liked one at keeneland sept. late in the sale but went way too high for me.

I think the only one that I liked from the 2 year old sales was the one that Pletcher bought. There was one other one at Ocala March that I was luke-warm on after watching the first preview, but I didn't like the horse's second preview.

There was actually one other one that I liked at Barrett's May. She only sold for $37,000 but she looked like a runner.

I doubt that Saarland will be anything special but he's probably alright standing for $5,000-$10,000.

So are you saying that he's a steal standing for $10k? Are you going to buy a bunch of breedings to him?

I don't know that I'd draw too many conclusions about Saarland from this filly. At $400,000, she was by far the highest price Saarland to sell at auction last year (suggesting that she was a superior individual, particularly given the bottom side of her pedigree). With the market crazy about first crop sires, especially those from the Unbridled sire line, to my way of thinking, it is not a good sign that Saarland's average yearling last year only sold for about $40,000 and that he only had three sell for a figure in excess of $100,000. Obviously, time will tell.

The quality of his book is a reflection of what the breeders think of him as a stallion prospect, especially in his first crop. I guess then that we should expect "ordinary."

I expect Saarland to be a great stallion.. He was a very ordinary grade 2 plodder. His pedigree is wonderful and he was a very pleasing horse to look at.. Of course his first book sucked who wants to try and resell a plodder in the age of fast and fizzle..

I don't think anyone was suggesting that he will be the next AP Indy. What does Saarland stand for? I would guess about $10,000. He might be alright as a $10,000 stallion.

FYI: The filly is "out of" La Sorbonne....not Saarland. Horses are "by" their sires and "out of" their dams.
I would pm this to DrugS too, but something tells me he might already know it.
