Default Where to bet Churchill ?

Well.....down here in Florida it seems you cant bet Churchill Downs anywhere. Checked with Calder,Gulfstream,Pompano, and Palm Beach Kennel Club, and all said same thing.......they are not taking races from Churchill. There is a chance some of them MIGHT take bets on The Oaks, Woodford, and Derby. With xpressbet not taking CD doesnt leave much of a choice between going to CD in person, or flying to Vegas to bet Fri-Sat cards.

Not sure who REALLY is at fault.....tracks or horsemen or ADW's....but whoever is better fix this by friday or CD's handle is gonna be horrendous on their biggest weekend. Personally...if they dont fix it I hope whoever is ultimately responsible suffers tremendously.

This is beyond insane.

Tampa was carrying Churchill as of last Sunday. I doubt you want to hike that far though.

Yeah....I am near West Palm Beach. A bit too far. Calder is really causing havoc down here with all the bs they are pulling. Hoping this thing with Churchill is fixed by Friday.

While I hope for you and all the other people that want to play, I highly doubt that will happen. Unless they are looking to play the hero come Friday as a media spin

If they dont fix this it will comeback to haunt them. I am sure by Friday 11 a.m. something will be worked out. I highly doubt that CD and the horsemen want their biggest weekend of the year to be a disaster.

The latest update from twinspires no longer seems confident.

Kentucky Horsemen Negotiations Stalled (Updated 4/30)
Wednesday, April 30
5:02 pm
Although discussions continue between Churchill Downs, Inc. officials and the Kentucky Horsemen, there has been no agreement as of 5PM EST Wednesday. April 30. For this reason, we must regretfully advise our players to make other (non-ADW) arrangements for placing bets on the undercard races at Churchill Downs this Friday, May 2nd and this Saturday, May 3rd. If things change, we will alert you.
Please note that TwinSpires.com will offer wagering this weekend on the following three Churchill Downs races:

· Friday's Kentucky Oaks race (Race #10)

· Saturday's Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (Race #9), and

· The 134th Kentucky Derby (Race #10).

We deeply regret the inconvenience that this situation has caused.

You sure Palm Beach Kennel Club is not taking the races? According to their simulcast website they are taking CD (ther others you listed are not on their websites)? The next closest option (according to their website they are also taking) is Fort Pierce Jai Alai.

How about playing the card from a track that actually acts like it wants your business?

How does this technically happen? Are they booking it themselves? Special papal dispensation?

I called PBKC today..they said they are not getting any of the Churchill Races as of now. If things dont change they will only offer Oaks on Friday, and Turf race and KD on SAt. That and no Belmont down here. I guess there is always Miami Jai Lai to bet...

Be careful with what the websites say...none of them are updating their sites with this No Belmont/No CD bs goin on. As of now you cant bet CD or NY anywhere in Fla.

Default Places in FLA to bet Derby

Thankfully the local dog track here in St Petersburg - Derby Lane - has full card simulcasting of races from Churchill Downs. That said, what's going on between horsemen and track operators has me feeling like I did with the '94 MLB strike. And I've never overcome that. Without bettors there are no tracks or horsemen. That point doesn't seem to resonate strongly enough with those arguing over how much of a percentage of simulcast revenue should be earmarked for purses. Bettors getting the shaft is nothing new. We've been getting for years.

I guess it's those down in S Florida who are getting F#cked. Stopped by Palm Beach Kennel Club today.......they were showing only Belmont until Bay mEadows/Hollywood starts up. No CD.....No Pimlico.....pretty sad sight.

It is being rumored in Louisville that if this is not worked out with the horseman CD is going to cut purses by 30% the week after Derby. This could get really ugly.

This better get done real quickly. If not, then call the day off.You can't give them purse money if they aren't allowing the bets to be made that pay the purses. They've basically stole money from the track for 5 days now.The track should of shut down as soon as they started this bullshit. If they want to go on strike, then don't pay them while they are doing it....DUH.

Calder is killing themselves.....not sure if this means other outlets in Florida will have the races today..the last paragraph kind of implies that...unless Palm Beach Kennel Club and other outlets down here get the CD signal through Calder.....

No Oaks, Derby Wagering for Calder

Date Posted: May 2, 2008
Last Updated: May 2, 2008

Because of the dispute over simulcast fees and revenue, Calder Race Course will not offer wagering on the May 2 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), as well as all other races on the two programs.

According to a statement from Calder owner Churchill Downs Inc., the Kentucky Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association won’t consent to the signal export. In late April, the Florida HBPA pulled its approval for Calder to export its signal to out-of-state wagering outlets and advance deposit wagering companies.

The Florida HBPA and Kentucky HBPA are members of the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Group, which is attempting to negotiate a better return on revenue from various pari-mutuel sources, including ADW.

“It’s very disappointing that fans in the South Florida marketplace are being denied the opportunity to wager on the Kentucky Derby, the country’s most important horse race,” Churchill Downs president Steve Sexton said in a May 1 statement. “We have an impressive race day and wish the horsemen would allow Calder’s patrons to enjoy it.

“We have attempted to discuss a purse contract with the Florida horsemen, but they refuse to do so without a slots agreement, on which we have diligently tried to reach resolution over the last several months. This demand is especially frustrating since 2008 purses will not be affected by the slots agreement. At a time when our sport’s visibility is at its highest, the horsemen have chosen to alienate new fans and abandon existing fans.”

Calder has been approved to install slot machines but hasn’t announced a start-up date.

THG officials and representatives of individual horsemen’s groups have said a change in the pari-mutuel revenue model is necessary. They currently are targeting ADW.

“Since its inception, ADWs recognized the distinct possibility that there would be a significant downturn in wagering at racetracks,” Kentucky HBPA president Rick Hiles said in a letter sent to Kentucky horsemen in late April. “Early on, they initiated ‘bettor-poaching fees,’ later referred to as ‘source-market fees,’ to address the erosion of betting at the racetrack where horsemen receive a larger share of the wagering dollar. Later, ADWs decided to increase the host fees as opposed to source-market fees, but in the end, while ADWs enjoyed immense profits from siphoning off betting patrons at the racetrack, horsemen continued to experience a decline in purses.

“Experts continue to lament that the model is broke, but no one seems to have an answer on how it should be fixed. Exacerbating the problem is that now several racetracks have entered into the national ADW business. Therefore, while the ADWs flourish and racetracks profit from their ownership of the ADWs, horsemen’s problems with a lower share of the wagering dollar are compounded. With this backdrop, horsemen have decided that the time has come to restructure the model to assure that horsemen are receiving an equitable share of wagering revenue.

“It was never our intention to alienate the betting public; we are simply attempting to assure that horsemen can continue to provide the quality of racing with reasonable purses that everyone richly deserves.”

CDI owns and operates the TwinSpires.com ADW service. TwinSpires.com will only offer wagering on the Oaks, Derby, and May 3 Woodford Reserve Stakes (gr. IT). The ADW provider will not be able to offer wagering on other races on the two Churchill programs.

Churchill said wagering on the May 2-3 programs will be available at all other tracks and off-track betting outlets in the United States execpt for two Indiana OTB parlors in Clarksville and Evansville. Churchill and Kentucky horsemen for years have kept the Kentucky Thoroughbred signals out of those two Indiana Downs-owned facilities, which border Kentucky.
