![]() Big A Numbers - http://www.nyra.com/belmont/stories/May082008.shtml
Weather seemed much better than last year, which I'm sure didn't hurt. |

![]() If the attendance at the Big A is 2760, on average, do they still need that big of a facility? Seems a waste of space and a big contributer to the costs of putting on the show, that makes NYRA bleed $$.
Tear down the Big A, sell the property, reduce/eliminate NYRA's debt with the proceeds(the state does this), use the extra proceeds from the sale and build a small building at the Belmont training track which now becomes the site of winter racing(wont need a building much bigger than a Freehold Raceway Style grandstand if only 2700+ show up for the winter), the same building will be used for a simo facility on non racing days and during Saratoga, have the slots approved for Belmont(that is the hard part). Build the new Belmont Casino in the parking lot on the other side of Hempstead Avenue, thus preserving the integrity of Belmont facility, get rid of the "new car" storage in the parking lots, start the Belmont main track spring meet on April 1st which allows for Florida shippers a place to race instead of Keeneland, assuming they dont want to race at Big A. Plenty of other ideas, just racing at the Big Box in South Ozone Park is wasting too much $$. |
