Default last night I changed

for the past year and a half i have sat in the same box at scioto downs. well, last night to our right was a family, some new faces. an older gentleman who was in a wheelchair and obviously not in good health, a couple with twins who were probably a year or two old, and a woman in her 50's or early sixties. i have always complained about kids at the track, you know how they run around acting a fool and all. well, last night talking to this wonderful family caused me to change my view a little. seems his dad always took him to the track, started out young hanging out with pops. he talked about how he looked forward to it all week long, that friday or saturday night hanging with pop's, playing a horse and cheering it on. you could feel his emotion when he spoke, you could see it in his eyes.

now i still don't like the rugrats that run around like a fool, but that is not their fault, it's the respective families fault for not being better parents, etc.. i'll tell ya last night was just great, sitting in our box, the cool summer breeze, the sunset, hittin a couple nice ones (including a nice $5 to win and place on a $20 winner lol), in the company of a loved one and friends, some good food shoot i could go on and on. but i realized something last night, it's not all about the gambling, gambling is a part of it. it's about these beatiful animals struttin their stuff for the world to enjoy, the company of friends and family, hopefully some good food, entertaining the young ones, etc... it's why i think i might drop my online accounts because i derive nothing but a gambling fix with that, where as the track atmosphere at a nice facility is so much more rewarding to the senses. i think i might just save up some money and instead of dropping it into my online accounts i'll just plan a couple trips to say gulfstream or tampa in the winter, see what i am saying? that would be so much more rewarding, who remembers sitting in front of your computer watching a race on your monitor versus taking a trip to florida in the dead of winter for a weekeknd at the track?

it's about having a good time and escaping life for a couple hours. now i just hope and pray that sometime soon beulah park will clean up that god forsaken depressing facility and make it more friendly for its guests. a coat of paint is a good start. scioto downs last night gave me what i needed, a rekindling of why i love this sport. nights at the track like last night create memories for me that will last a lifetime, and i hope those young kids as well will remember when mom and dad took them to the track with grandpa.
