Default Fort Harrod KEE's 'Marathon Series' Add

Keeneland has added the $100,000 Fort Harrod S. to its 2008 spring stakes schedule. The 1 5/8-mile event for four-year-olds and up will be run on April 19. The Fort Harrod is intended to be part of a nationwide series of distance races leading up to the new $500,000 Breeders' Cup Dirt Marathon at 1 1/2 miles. It will be one of three stakes held on April 19, joining the $100,000 Giant's Causeway S. and the $325,000 Lexington S. (G2).

For some time Oaklawn has featured a 10 furlong race on Arkansas Derby Day. They call it The Long Trail. It really seemed to be more of a novelty than anything. Fans liked it because it was three turns.

The last carded race of the meet...right? Hit the super in that race last year

You're right! They moved it up in the day a couple of years ago but it just didn't have the same appeal. I hit a tri ticket on last years. Had show and fourth reversed on my super.

Before I die, I want to win the cheap starter allowance Keeneland writes in the spring. A few years ago it was a 10f race. I think it was reduced to 9.5f last year.

It's not quite the Ft. Harrod but I don't exactly own stakes horses......

Chuck, you find any claimers eligible to the Kee starter that can get 10f, let me know!!!! 8-)

I love the marathons!!!

1 5/8 miles at Kee? I can't wait to see that race. You'll be able to time it with a flip calendar.

Yeah, there really is nothing quite like a full field of bad horses lumbering around the racetrack at the speed of snail.

Go for it, fifth place will be a better payday than most of his outings. The problem is 12 furlongs on the poly is really not a big deal since turf horses will fill the field.

Might be mistaken, but I think the race is called "The Trail's End" and I don't think it's 10 furlongs which would only be a mile and a quarter. I think the race, unless they've changed in recent years, is at 1 mile and 7/8s which would be 15 furlongs.

It is good to see the marathon division, i suppose that's 12F and longer filling some dates. It will be interesting to see who emerges at the top of this division.

I have bet that race, but my reserve seats were so bad the last couple of years that I was ready to go after the derby was run. Have great seats this year, but I had to get them the week after Thanksgiving to make sure that I would get some decent ones.
