Default War Pass- Next Start

I have not heard anything about War Pass and his future plans. Is he on the shelf for the rest of the year? If so, is he going to Florida for the winter and making his next start at Gulfstream?

Tampa has benefitted from the inability of GP to race 1 1/16 races. Thus the 3yo's have to go from a 1 turn mile to a 3 turn 9f. The alternative is the Tampa Bay Derby.

unless there is some new configuration that I don't know about, the 9F races are only 2 turn at Gulfstream.

No matter where he goes, no Cherokee Run is gonna win a properly contested Kentucky Derby (ie, honest pace up front). Pletcher better win a couple of slowly run preps at GP with him, announce that he's developed a fever, and skip the Triple Crown altogether.

What if he was a Cherokee Run who didn't need the lead? Pretty easy to say a speed horse won't win a race if he gets embroiled in a speed duel while conveniently throwing in some half-baked pedigree analysis.

Of course, your entire post might have some credibility if you even knew who trained War Pass.

Gulfstream in February, the Swale would be an interesting spot to bring him back at 6.5 furlongs. Otherwise they could wait for the Fountain of Youth later in the month but that is at 9 furlongs. He's already got the earnings so an allowance is a possibility but there may not be anything in the condition book he qualifies for that would draw enough horses to be carded.

Further speaks to the question of why did Gulfstream move the Holy Bull?

I understand they wanted to compete with those looking for last chance graded money and to re-energize the lifeless final two weeks of their meet, but the Holy Bull, especially at 1 mile, was in a perfect spot in my opinion. If he's ready to go I'd say take him to the Lecomte at Fair Grounds. I know Zito's a Florida guy, but at least the Lecomte is at a mile around two turns.

It was certainly a baffling decision, to have the Holy Bull after the Florida Derby is pretty strange. I actually like the idea of bringing this horse back at 6.5 furlongs. He is probably fast enough to win that in a paid work and set himself up for the FOY three weeks later. Then they have the option to go anywhere from there for a final prep.

I thought Eurobounce/Whodey trained War Pass.

That's a most excellent and exciting suggestion, could you please convince Mr. Zito...

He, Zito, does come here sometimes.....
17 more days to opening day. Just made my reservations for Thanksgiving and Derby day.

Zito has all sorts of options for War Pass. I would like to see the horse at Tampa. He could go in the Sam F Davis on 2/16, then the Tampa bay Derby on 3/15. Then he could travel up north or to Keeneland for the Bluegrass on 4/12.

I think you can rule out any race at Keeneland. Nicky hates polytrack. Of the six meets at Keeneland from the fall of 2003 through the spring of 2006, Zito was 1st or 2nd in the leading trainers standings at five of those meets and 4th in the other. In the last three meets since Poly was installed, he is nowhere to be found.

Well he (Zito) is nowhere to be found in the trainer stats at any track these days. But, I think there could be an case made to prep your horse on a synthentic surface, prior to the Derby. I think Zito will send War Pass to New York, however I would like to see War Pass at Keeneland.

Hasn't War Pass done enough? lol

So far he is an exciting horse. It is hard to imagine him getting 10f's but who knows till he try's. Let's hope he stays sound and someone comes along who can hook him early. So far he has toyed with his competition.
