I went to school with the guy who looks after him, it's a shame i don't really see him anymore since he moved away from Newmarket. Gift Horse seems to enjoy the pressure.

![]() Lucarno won, he looked very good and stayed the trip. My boy Mahler was second and Mick (Kinane) rackons he could have won if he didn't lose his action. He definitley lost ground close home.

The place to be was with the fastest pace, which was towards the stands' side. FULLANBY had won the best turned out prize but there was a bigger pot going his way as he came through to snatch the spoils in the closing stages. He has been held up towards the rear but found the reserves from over a furlong out as he finished strongly on ground that wouldn't havebeen ideal for him. He picks up a 5lb penalty for the Ayr Gold Cup, which takes his weight to 8st 11lb, but could conceivably have more suitable ground by next weekend and could well give another bold showing now that he has returned to winning form. Paradise Isle had been given a three-month break after racing in Dubai earlier in the season and ran an absolute cracker. Her handler had opined that she would have to put up a career best to win this off 102 but she so nearly succeeded. She tracked the leaders until surging into the leader over a furlong out but was just worn down in the closing stages. She could find compensation in a little Listed contest or something similar before too long. Pearly Wey had come good at Goodwood last time and ran another cracker as he was behind early on and had to be switched towards the centre to deliver his challenge from over a furlong out. He ran on well on possibly the slowest of the ground towards the centre and he would be very much one to have on the short list for Ayr. Orpsie Boy showed that his heart fibulations were behind him as he also came from a similar position to the third and kept on well in the closing stages. He is an improved performer and there looks likely to be other major pay days for connections. Gift Horse once again went well in the visor and, with his handler's impeccable record in the Ayr feature, would also have be a serious contender for that contest. He kept on best off all in the closing stages, looks well handicapped on his best form and could be finding his best form at the ideal time. Green Manalishi has run in a Listed event at the course three days earlier and put in a sound effort back in handicap company. He chased the leaders throughout butthe handicapper appears to have his measure. River Falcon had returned to form at York and ran well on ground that wouldn't have been ideal and he kept on well in the closing stages and could be another to be right in the firing line at Ayr, whilestablemate Orientor, who chased in mid-division, ran a similar sort of race and still has his love of the game despite being in the veteran stage. Qadar raced in mid-division and kept on in the final furlong and credit has to go to Judd Street, who had been raised 4lb for a cracking effort at Haydock seven days earlier and came home first on the far side after leading that group over a furlong out and confirmed his trainer's opinion that he is improving. One More Round missed the break but was another to perform well on the far side and kept on well in the closing stages and he is another who may have more to offer in a similar event. Buachaill Dona was held in the far group and never really got in a blow and Fantasy Believer was another who could get in a blow after being held on the stands' side. Off The Record had made the running on the far side until headed by Judd Street, while Tabaret had employed a similar role on the stands' side until Paradise Isle took it up there. [TE] |
