Question Ray Paulick

just curious if anyone knows why he is no longer editor in chief at bloodhorse? i turned to the usual column, and he wasn't there. only a cryptic 'no longer associated with bloodhorse publications' included in a column written by dan liebman.

I've heard it has something to do with him speaking out in one of his editorials.

all I could find

Ray Paulick, who served as editor-in-chief for The Blood-Horse weekly magazine, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that he has left the Thoroughbred industry magazine.

An assistant to Blood-Horse President Stacy Bearse said Bearse was unavailable and said he would not comment on any change in the editor-in-chief position.

Paulick has served as editor-in-chief of The Blood-Horse weekly magazine since May 1992 and managed all editorial products for Blood-Horse Publications.

Paulick spent eight years in the Los Angeles office of Daily Racing Form working as a handicapper and editor, then moved to Kentucky in 1988 to become managing editor of THOROUGHBRED TIMES. He left that position in 1991 to help launch the now-defunct Racing Times daily newspaper

What did he say in a column that someone found offensive?

I can't remember specifically what it would've been but I do recall being surprised once or twice that he got away with publishing some thoughts/opinions that he did. I assumed someone with some financial muscle might take offense so it just depends on who got rubbed the wrong way. Good on Ray for saying all that though.

well, at any rate, i'll miss his editorials, and wish him well in the future.

I wish him well also. He offered some provacative insights into horse racing issues. And the bloodhorse is a super web site.

Nothing to do with the attack on Biancone's vet a couple weeks back? The same vet that may be employed by many advertisers in the Bloodhorse....

well, i kinda figured it wasn't under the best of terms, since there was no farewell, no announcement, no gold watch, etc. just the 'no longer associated...' that says it all right there.

A super web site for whom? Surely you don't mean the bettor.

No, not geared towards the bettor. But I love that site, too. Haskin's on-the-scene pre-Derby stuff has always given me good insight into how the horses are doing the past week, with most accuracy. It's updated post-race much more quickly than DRF site for daily results of big stakes, etc.
