![]() This really is no surprise. Manley was more looking to fill a CEO-type of role, perhaps that of a much larger organization. The Guild not only lacked the finances, but also the infrastructure and model needed to operate on this type of level. Manley was more suited to be the CEO of a more mature organization. On another note -- how much did we see of Jesse Jackson?
The Guild, although having been around for a long time, is still in it's infancy as far as life-cycle. It hasn't progressed in the last 5 years, it's regressed; and as such needs to regroup in order to grow, develop and mature as an organization. The model and mindset has failed and failed miserably since Dr. G was brought in. I hate making people out to be wrong, however in this case it's difficult not to -- wrong attitude, wrong approach, wrong efforts, basically, everything wrong. I think there are several candidates who are more than qualifed for the job and can do what needs to be done. The ideal candidate is someone who will take on an entirely different mindset and work WITH the other groups within the industry. Eric |

![]() The good Reverend Jesse Jackson has been named interim manager of the guild. Negotiations are ongoing for a permanent replacement. Word on the street is that Al Sharpton has been in talks with the jockeys. He is their choice because they are looking for a less controversial, more conservative figure that can paint them in the proper light as good citizens of the industry, just like Sharpton.

![]() I was surprised when they hired Manley to begin with, but won't be a bit surprised with who they chose to follow him. Will be interesting, though. Can't wait to see a little more of "The Reverend" in the meantime.
Do you supposed he takes any of his illegitimate kids to the races? |

Manley let the Guild Board know quite some time ago that he was going to resign. They just didn't want to announce it, or who the successor was, for a variety of reasons, but the official announcement will be made tomorrow or the next day. Eric Last edited by ELA : 09-05-2007 at 10:41 PM. |

![]() "During the past year, the guild settled a lawsuit with the paralyzed jockey Gary Birzer, who alleged that the guild did not notify riders that it had failed to renew an insurance policy covering jockeys for catastrophic injuries. Earlier this year, the guild also settled a lawsuit with Churchill Downs that alleged the organization violated anti-trust laws by organizing two walkout at Churchill-owned tracks in 2004. As a result of the settlement, Churchill resumed making payments to the guild after a two-year hiatus."
I think that it is safe to say that he "has done enough" and has "nothing left to prove". Yet another example of one of the stars of the racing world not making it past their first full year... |
