Default What is wrong with people in New Joisey??

Let me see if I can figure this one out.

Gotcha Gold upsets the 1/5 or 1/9 Lawyer Ron last time out at Monmouth at 10/1.

Lawyer Ron comes back and blitzes a decent grade 1 race at the spa in track record time.

Gotcha Gold runs back today again at Monmouth against complete nothings and goes off at 15/1!!

So, not only do they talk funny down there, apparently they don't even know how to read or think either!!

Not a Joisey-ite or anything (only in the summer), but if Im not mistaken the whole country has a chance to wager on that race. The odds are reflected by the publics wagering. I'm with you that it is unfathomable that the horse that beat Lawyer Ron could go off at such odds.

It's always easy at 7:00 when the race goes off at 5:00.

wow!

this is one of those days everything came in and i didn't go to the otb or track

touchdown peyton in the 2 mile race , and Gotcha Gold

of course if this "bad luck" continues this should mean that lava man will infact win tommorow and my only bet of the weekend will pay out less than i invested...

15-1 !

Gotcha Gold is a nice horse! 9 furlongs was certainly the factor every critical eye was concentrating on but 15-1!

it is worse than a bad beat , a few no-bets and they pay huge

IMO, this is probably the overlay of the year so far. He not only beat Lawyer Ron over the track last out, he was MUCH the best, doing all the work setting an insane pace and holding on.

well, yeah, sure, now you say it 10 hours after!

anyone who thinks this horse was a big overlay is guilty of redboarding!

I am from Jersey but did not bet the race, had I not been getting my Butt kicked at the SPA I might have played but would have boxed the winner with Master Command and Papi so I wouldn't have cashed any way. In the finale at the Spa I was live to the 4 & 6 and was too busy thinking about that to really focus on the Islen.

Anyway my take on what people were thinking is that:

When he beat Lawyer Ron and lets not forget he barely hung to win and he was the LONE speed on a Speed Favoring track.

I think people thought that there would be a battle for the lead and Gotcha Gold would not actually be on the lead.

The real question is which BC race should the connections enter him in The Sprint, The Classic or the 1 mile & 70 Yards?

when in doubt, pick C.

When your two favorites are Master Command and Papi Chullo and u have a horse that just beat Lawyer Ron last time and u are getting better odds on him this time, u have to take a shot. Unfortunately, I didn't make it to book in time. I wouldn't have picked him to win the race but I surely would have bet him. I cannot ever bet Papi Chullo. He didn't get better with any trainer change. He got better with the competition level change. Put back in against stakes horses, and he's still the same horse. When he's one of the favorites, it tells u just how wide open the race is.

Uncontested speed is VERY elusive at Monmouth.....

As Gottcha Gold has shown in his upset of Lawyer Ron at double digit odds and his Iselin obliteration at double digit odds.

Which is why people are foolish to think Hard Spun would somehow not be very dangerous if he got loose over that track against horses who are beating him by a couple lengths while almost consistantly having better trips than him.

But hey, now it looks like Gottcha Gold might go the BC Classic route instead of the BC Dirt Mile and 70 route. So, maybe HS wasn't getting uncontested anyway.

maybe hard spun goes in the shorter bc race...after all, you would think darley would want to keep their newest shed hopes separated. which makes one wonder where any given saturday will run...

hard spun had a bullet work this morning.

maybe they run hard spun in the sprint, AGS in the 1 mile and 70, and street sense in the classic? or maybe not!

They will run whereever their current trainers want them to run I'm sure.

AGS and SS will both run in the Classic.

Hard Span's dam was a 12 furlong marathoner who loved the grass --- He's a router who needs the early lead --- and seems to relax best on it. He hasn't had it since the Derby...and that was the only time he ever lost while on it.

He's obviously going to have a good look in the King's Bishop...but only because the 3yo sprinters are a pretty questionable bunch.

That mile and 70 BC race is tailor made for Gotcha Gold. Right now, I can't think of a more likely favorite for it.

i was just thinking about what nafzger said when they were debating on whether to start in the belmont with street sense...that it depended on what tafel AND darley wanted.

I almost ran around Keeneland in glee when I saw he opened at 15-1. I would have bet him at 3-1 against that field the way Monmouth plays (and was playing yesterday).

I'll redboard this one because it's the first winner over 5-1 I've had since the Reagan administration (or so it feels).
