Default Prix Morny (Gr1) 2yo

http://horses.sportinglife.com/Racec...239791,00.html

Later today. Unfortunately, Winker Watson has been declared a non runner.

My pick is one of the fillies; Natagora.

Wow, Fallon has ridden some nice horses in his time, look what he says about this fella......

From Racing Post.......

Charlie outclasses Morny rivals

by Desmond Stoneham

MYBOYCHARLIE rocketed to the head of the betting for next year's Stan James 2,000 Guineas after putting up an awesome winning performance in Sunday's Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville.

Although some interest in the race was lost bythe withdrawal of the unbeaten British hope Winker Watson, it was still a memorable race to watch and one that had a major impact on the Guineas market.

The two-length winner is now 7-1 joint favourite for the Guineas with William Hill, having been a16-1 shot as the stalls opened.

Such a reaction was unavoidable as Myboycharlie totally outclassed the Prix Morny opposition after being backed from 10-1 to 6-4 favourite on the pari-mutuel.

Kieren Fallon was in no hurry in the early stages of the 6f event. He brought Myboycharlie up to long-time leader Natagora just over a furlong out and then surged clear to win by two lengths. The brave Natagora kept going and held off Alexandros by a further half length.

Although Coolmore Stud has won theMorny three times in the past with the Aidan O'Brien-trained juveniles Orpen, Fasliyev and Johannesburg, Myboycharlie is under the care of Tommy Stack, who was enjoying his first Group 1 win since Tarascon won the Irish 1,000 Guineas in 1998.

For thethird year running, the Morny was run on poor ground but this did not seem to worry Myboycharlie, who had already hacked up on two occasion on a similar surface.

Stack was represented by his son Fozzy, who said: "It's just great and we think he's an even better horse on good ground.

“I phoned my father and he's over the moon. It's the best colt we've ever had in our stable by a long way."
Stack added: “This is our first Group 1 winner in nine years and we must now have a talk about the colt's future, which may well include a trip to Newmarket.”

John Magnier, the Coolmore Stud supremo, was present for the victory, the first since Coolmore recently purchased Myboycharlie from a group including former England footballer Teddy Sheringham, and said: “This victory gave me even more pleasure as Fozzy is my godson.”

Fallon was waxing lyrical about Myboycharlie, saying: “He is unbelievable and has natural speed.

“I have never been going so easily in a Group 1 race. The colt has great attributes and is an all-rounder. I am really looking forward to riding him on decent ground. It is too early to say just how good he is but he couldn't have done better today.”

This was Fallon's second Group 1 winner in France this season as hehad previously taken the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on Mountain High, who is also in the ownership of Coolmore.

Natagora was beaten fair and square, but bookmakers believed she franked her 1,000 Guineas claims. Skybet cut her odds to 16-1 (from 25s).

Christophe Lemaire decided to make all the running on the filly and she set a sensible early pace but had nothing in reserve when challenged by Myboycharlie just over a furlong out.

Lemaire said: “We were beaten by a better horse on the day and the testing ground could have blunted her speed a little on this occasion.”

Patrick Barbe, who bought Natagora and is also racing manager for owner Stefan Friborg, said: “She couldn't use her natural speed on this ground and we'd like to meet the winneragain on better going as she would be more competitive. The filly has plenty of entries and we are leaning towards the Cheveley Park Stakes."

The last two Coolmore purchases of juveniles in Europe that I know of (MyBoy and Excellent Art) both turned out to be G1 winners. Not bad business at all..

Hopefully, he's better than the last juvi Fallon praised - Trinity College!!

It always amazes me what a different shade of blue can do to these horses
