![]() Spurrier blasts South Carolina admissions for denying two recruits
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2962823 So now we know how the Gators won championships...just because the NCAA clearinghouse minimum standards are met (which are ridiculously low, Coach Steve thinks lowering academic levels are OK? You would have thought that Coach Steve would have KNOWN the universities academic standards BEFORE he offered scholarships to student athletes. ![]()

![]() I'm curious as to how this is his fault?
The NCAA cleared them... that shouldn't have happened if they weren't going to be cleared by the University.

![]() there was probably a breakdown in communication somewhere, as this situation should of not happened. Now throw into the fact that this shines light that recruits arent even qualified to go to college

![]() Gator..it works the opposite ways. Briefly:
The prospective SA must meet minimum qualifying NCAA Clearinghouse standards even to contemplate being eligible at any NCAA D 1 institution. If they don't get 780, it's off to JC or prep schools. And the prep loophole is now being closed by the NCAA. 2nd phase is each institution has their own standards which USUALLY are higher. Meaning NCAA might say the minimum SAT is 780 (on the old scale of 0-1600) But the University might have a minimum of 900 or higher. That SA would not gain admission to that school. Most Big East Conference members have a minimum that is higher than the 780 for any SA to gain admission. We at SJU already know what the minimum SAT/GPA is that our admission office will allow so we don't recruit the 780 type of kid. Our admission office tells US what the minimum that they can realistically work with for admission. Ivies and higher schools maintain a 1200-1300 minimum. Top tiers schools usually are 1200-1000 for student athletes but still hold their regular students to stricter standards. I wonder what the minimum really is for SEC schools for non athletes and how low they come to the 780 level for their athletes for admission?
