Default If you have a few moments... Champions Day

I've been working this week on getting the videos from Harrah's Louisiana Downs Champions Day onto my site. I was able to get a DVD and I posted them to YouTube/Racecalling.com. Anyway, it's as close as I get to a Breeders' Cup-like experience with 13 races, 8 t-breds, 5 QH's, all stakes etc. While there are no Cigar's or Sunday Silence's, so I can't go over the edge, but it's a big day for breeders here and always one of our biggest days.

If you wouldn't mind checking out the stretch runs reel and provide some thoughts/input/opinions. I'd appreciate it!

Oh, I liked it a lot! i can be overly-critical too but really..... watched it twice and i liked the rhythm of it. Loved the music at first and if I were forced to find one negative I'd say the music from Race 8 on is the only think I wasn't wild about but it's very much in the background so now I'm just being picky.

I liked the way the excitement picked up and that last finish..... great way to end it. Terribly exciting (and i want to know who won the photo).

Nice job... congrats.

Travis,

I enjoyed the race calls. You use an excellent cadence building up towards the completion of the race. Even on the replays I felt the excitement and found myself rooting for one horse or another. To pass on the excitement of the moment is the most difficult part IMO and you were able to do that. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! The last race went to the 3-2 shot... we almost had a carryover with the 80-1 nearly stealing the race wire-to-wire.

All of the calls were great, with excellent build up towards the finish. Great job!

Meh. The background music had me hoping for an attack by Prince Vultan and squadron 40.

Boy now I just can't wait for The Fairgrounds to open.
I really enjoyed it. So nice to see some of our local favorites horses, and you do a nice job on the call. Very exciting for me. And it is a big day for Louisiana Breeders...nice job.
Thanks for the video, TVG hardly ever shows LA Downs so all I was able to do was check results. Made it so much nicer to have the calls.
But what happened to R9 with Rasberry Wine ?? We all just love her.

Thanks all!

Raspberry Wine's call was fine, but the stretch drive wasn't as exciting as the others and I didn't want to make a 9 minute video. But yea, she's awesome!

I thought the calls were very good, what I like is that they were tight and accurate without a lot of fluff. The music is okay for a compilation like that.

Boy, what a heartbreaker for the guy who bet the 80-1 horse to win!

also, are there any races without a horse named Zarb something or other?

I like the way you control your emotions throughout your race calls, a good deal of race callers kind of go overboard. But I hope have some nifty sayings for us this weekend

I enjoyed it alot, especially the way you didn't miss horses closing in from behind. And I could understand you all the way to the line (some race callers start yelling). You built to an exciting finish - very nice!

I thought these stretch run race calls were fantastic! As someone else said, not over the top, but filled with the excitement of the race. I wish every race track would provide a video of the replays edited this way. Very exciting and gets you caught up in a hurry.

Thanks for taking a look folks. I don't get a lot of feedback often being our distribution is limited. In fact I only get friends heckling me about not calling photos, but the booth is 10-15 yards before the finish!

Man, you might start getting a big head after this thread, but I had to chime in too. Those calls were EXACTLY what I like to hear in a race-call. I am typically a harsh critic of most race-callers, but you did an outstanding job in those races.
The thing I liked about it was that you simply called the race, rather than trying to upstage the race itself with some over-the-top call. Yet at the same time, the stretch calls were exciting.
Nice job.

I like everything others have noted. One thing I wish was different is that, save the last race, I'd prefer just a few more seconds of coverage per race so that we'd know which race was run.
