Default A rare sight

Was out in the front and my neighbor comes by and tells me to look up in the sky.He points out 2 bright objects moving and informes me that's it's the space shuttle and the international space station.Should be back around our area shortly.I know for some of you in Florida,Texas or California it's no big deal but for us here we don't get to see that too often.

I think I tend to take that for granted... it's quite the experience when you get to hear the Sonic Boom though.

Read your post...went right outside with the boys...looked in the west and there it is...bright as hell...blows everything else away with its brightness.

Called a friend in NYC and she's seeing it also...even with all the city lights so you know that thing is bright!

I'm 30 miles east of you BTW. Thanks for the headsup!

The shuttle made a contrail over San Antonio once and my daughter and I were in total awe thinking there where actually people in the bright object with what appeared to have white smoke (the contrail) coming off it.

It was absolutely awesome. The whole city was out watching it. Of course I get thrilled locating satellites after the sun goes down.

To think we are able to do such things is just amazing. Yet I still get lint in my belly button. An uncontrollable force of nature yet to be conquered.

When I first moved to Florida, I was in Gainesville (for too many years, but that is another thread) and never heard it.

So, I move to Tampa and was showering one morning and BOOM, sounded like someone threw a basketball at my front door from about 6 feet away. So I jump out of the shower, dry off and run to the door....hmmmm no one there...wtf?

I go to work and mention that I thought someone threw something against my front door and the co-worker about pees his pants laughing. When he finally calms down, he says "That was the space shuttle you moron".

First time I heard that boom after I moved to Florida, it scared the bejesus out of me.....I had no idea what it was....I was standing in the bedroom, heard the boom, and hit the damn deck, cuz I knew we were under attack...I laid there for a few seconds, got up, turned the tv on, and saw the scroller across screen, warning of the boom.....damn that is loud...

Glad I wasn't the only one....

I think Floridians don't warn newbies on purpose so they can get a good laugh later.

LOL! It's pretty funny...

NOT funny when the shuttle doesn't make it home safe, though.

Then you'll love this site:

http://www.heavens-above.com/

It gives you the exact times/dates of shuttle/space station/satellites overhead for best viewing.

Thank you. I used a NASA site for this but this one is actually easier to use. The NASA sight is really cool with the visuals though.
Everyone on the board should try this one. Click on J-TRACk 3D.
A little window opens up and click on it and fiddle around then let the pure awesomeness begin:
